26 | OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2024 | It's February and it's time to start rehearsing for our spring concert. Although it was nice to have a month off to celebrate the holidays and rest our voices, the Chorale is ready to start up again. Our first rehearsal will be on Feb. 8 at 10:15 am. We rehearse until noon every Thursday until the concert date which is on May 19. If you are a new member that just signed up on Do Dues Day, we look forward to seeing you at the first rehearsal. If you haven't joined yet but are thinking about it, please come out and consider joining our family of singers. It isn't necessary that you be a trained singer or performer to participate. If you love to sing, we would love to have you. If you want to sit in on a rehearsal and decide if you are interested, that is perfectly acceptable. I am anticipating a wonderful year of rehearsals and concerts. The Chorale is a fun group of people, and we all love to share the joy of music and singing together. Welcome back members and welcome new members. I look forward to seeing you all. ~ Written by Jack Shabel Choral Society Garden Club February is a transitional month in the garden, still winter and anxiously awaiting spring. If you haven't cleaned up your winter garden, pick a warm day and get it ready for planting. But there is still time to sow cool season veggies directly into garden beds. You can also plant spring annuals for early garden color and interest. February is the month to prune your roses before new spring growth, not sure you know how, find out at the Garden Club February meeting. Come celebrate Valentine's Day at the Feb. 14 Garden Club meeting. Our speaker is Betty Corvey, San Diego Master Gardener. We are excited she will be talking about one of the most popular Valentine Day gifts… roses. She will share her broad knowledge of roses, including pruning, fertilization, propagation, and the historic meanings of the color of roses. We hope you will join us for this informative and timely topic. We will meet in Abravanel Hall, social time and Valentine treats at 9:30 am and the meeting begins at 10 am. New this year to our meeting is our question box, if you have a gardening question you would like answered, drop it in the box before the meeting. We will pick one to discuss at the meeting, it will also be answered on the OHCC Garden Club Facebook page. You must be a member to be included in the Facebook group. If you didn't make it to Do Dues Day, you can always join Garden Club at the meetings. ~ Written by Jan Vaccaro
