| OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2024 | 33 As we dive into the new year, we would like to remind everyone that there's more to our club than just sewing! We are crocheters, we are knitters, we are embroiderers, we are garment, purse and bag makers… we are SEWING, ETC… with a very large emphasis on the ETC! After a very successful Do Dues Day we are around 100 members strong. If you haven't joined and would like to be part of our group, our dues are only $7 for the year, and those dues allow you to participate in our free monthly classes and make use of the plentiful supplies we maintain. Our classes this February are repeats of our annual items made for either philanthropy purposes or for your personal use. Saturday, Feb. 3 is a class about making "knitted" hats on a loom. Each hat takes about two hours to make and requires no advanced skills. In the sewing room there is a sign-up clipboard showing what supplies you need for the class. It is easy! On Thurs., Feb. 15 and Sat., Feb. 17 there will be two classes teaching our holiday stockings. Annually, we donate these to Camp Pendleton and San Pasqual Academy, but you can also make them for your own personal use. Our regular get-togethers remain in place as always. Our Knedler's (knitters) and Hookers (crocheters) gather on Tuesdays from 3 to 4:30 pm and are always looking for excuses to practice their knitting and crocheting, and to offer guidance. Also, on Tuesday evenings (6 to 8 pm) and Fridays (12 to 3 pm) several quilters, knitters, crocheters and sewers get together for "Sew & Chats." Both of these gatherings are loosely structured and help to keep us in touch. We meet monthly on the first Thursday in the Mykonos Room at 9:30 am (social time begins at 9:15 am), and if you're a member or just checking us out, please feel free to join us! Don't forget about our "rideshare" service to meetings and workshops that are held in our clubhouse. If you are interested in attending and have no transportation, please call Sharon Philippe (760) 500-3086. We have a list of volunteers who will be happy to get you to and from the event. If you are interested in participating in our activities and are not sure who to reach out to for further information, please call MaryLu Belisle (952) 454-1931 for more information. See all we do by logging on to OceanHillsCountryClub. com. Click on Social Clubs and you will find the Club W website. We meet the third Saturday of most months at 10 am in Abravanel Hall for coffee, chatting, and interesting speakers. Our purpose is to enhance the lives of women in OHCC who are widows no matter the length of time it has been, or the partner statuses. During one meeting we discussed what challenges we face as "solo agers". The challenges included: • Having someone to talk with about worries and concerns • Loneliness • Dealing with emotions • Planning for emergencies The tools used to meet these challenges were identified as: • Friends, Family and Faith • Exercise • Keeping busy and getting out of the house • Maintaining a good diet • Working with a doctor to help deal with unusual stress • Working on strategies to feel secure, such as giving your key to your children, neighbor, or our Community Patrol. Club W has membership, luncheons, fun and games, theatre trips, and potlucks. Membership is $10 per year. Social connections can be powerful tools to help move forward. If you want more information on membership, ask the front desk for a Club W membership form or request one by email OHCCclubW@gmail.com. ~ Written by Lynn Murphy
