42 | OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2024 | It's Not at Hard! The basics of pool are not very hard to learn. That is IF you begin by learning the correct fundamentals. No matter where you are starting from… we'll get you there! Our first Basic Lesson took place in January. It was "How to Talk a Good Game and Look Like You Know What You Are Doing." The three remaining Basic Lessons on shooting take place this month, followed by a comprehensive seminar led by a seasoned pool professional. You will gain a solid foundation to build on. Practice doing it wrong and go nowhere. Practice doing it right and advance steadily. "Choose wisely, Grasshopper." Once you have absorbed the basics, in the following months we will offer seven further lessons on how to play various games, seven advanced lessons on technique, and 11 tournaments, all taking place on Thursdays at 1:30 pm. We do have the best pool hall for "miles around." The finest cloth, balls, and members. Say goodbye to beer-stained tables, exorbitant prices, and rowdy drunks. Want your own beginner's cue? We have a selection of two-piece cues on our walls – take any you like for $20. Need a cue case? Grab one for the same price. Prefer to keep your new cue in a locker in the Billiard Room? Rent one for 50 cents per month. In the "outside world," moderate playtime could exceed $90 per month. Here at OHCC, it's $7 per year! Simply leave a check and your email at the front desk or approach one of our club officers. Visit our website at http://ohccbilliards. wixsite.com/billiardsclub for more information about the club, upcoming events, and additional resources. "Play a stranger, make a friend." ~ Written by Charlie Payne Billiards Mahjongg Club A small contingency of our club attended the lecture of Michelle Frizzell of the popular Mahjlife, LLC. Some of you may have watched Michelle online. I often recommend her youtube.com training videos to augment American MahJongg Basic training classes. This was Michelle's first visit to San Diego. It proved to be informative. She is very knowledgeable and included several tips that we may include in the Beyond Basics MahJongg class that we hope to put together later this year. The photo includes many of the attendees from OHCC. Going Forward: The Club has room reservations confirmed for 2024 an American MahJongg has reserved Monday afternoons from 1 to 3 pm and Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 9 pm for Intermediate and Seasoned players. Saturday afternoons from 1 to 4 pm will continue to be available for games. Walk-in players of all levels are welcome on Saturdays as long as it is understood that this time is intended as a mixer of skills (novice players and practicing students do not bring a purse). Chinese MahJongg has reserved Monday afternoons from 3:15 to 5 pm. Bring your set and a table covering to absorb the sound of the mixing tiles on the metal tables. ~ Written by Dawn Edwards
