The Cinema Club has screenings on the second Sunday of each month. We screen films you won't find at the big cineplexes: documentaries, indie films, foreign films, and other little gems that don't get wide release. Please note: the screening for this month is the fourth Sunday, not the second Sunday. Our screening for this month, on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 6 pm, is Fiddler's Journey to the Big Screen (USA 2022, 1 hr. 28 min., English). Here is a brief description from IMDb.com: "The fall of 2021 marked the 50th anniversary of Fiddler on the Roof, the film Pauline Kael of The New Yorker called "the most powerful movie musical ever made." Narrated by Jeff Goldblum, Fiddler's Journey to the Big Screen captures the humor and drama of director Norman Jewison's quest to recreate the lost world of Jewish life in Tsarist Russia and re-envision the beloved stage hit as a wide-screen epic. Oscar-nominated filmmaker Daniel Raim puts us in the director's chair and in Jewison's heart and mind, drawing on rare behind-the-scenes footage, original storyboards, and never-before-seen stills as well as original interviews with Norman Jewison, Topol (Tevye), composer John Williams, production designer Robert F. Boyle, film critic Kenneth Turan, lyricist Sheldon Harnick, and actresses Rosalind Harris, Michele Marsh, and Neva Small (Tevye's daughters). The film explores how the experience of making Fiddler deepens Jewison as an artist and revives his soul." All of our screenings are followed by lively discussion about the film; we'd love to have you join us. The Lodge Theater has very limited seating, so if you're interested in our screenings, come early; we hope to see you there. Please note that all films announced are subject to availability. They went on to say how fortunate that this new advancement is brought to audiences so dramatically in a love story of infinite power and tenderness. The story is about a pair of sisters from the vaudeville circuit trying to make it on Broadway, but matters of the heart complicate the attempt.
