FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2024 15 Diving with a buddy I booked a three night stay close to the Ventura Harbor Village and had reservations for the Island Packers to take us to Scorpion Anchorage. The Robert J. Lagomarsino Visitor Center is located at the end of Spinnaker Drive and was educational. We took the morning ferry and nearby the port was the Cavern Point Loop trailhead. The 400-foot incline with steps was easy enough. The amazing views of the ocean and the rock formations were a pleasant surprise. Soon we were at the Point and sat on the benches to have lunch. The serenity, endless ocean view, and soft breeze made this our best lunch and hike of the year compared to hikes we had on our world cruise. While on the trail, we saw an old ranch, passed by the campground, caught a glimpse of the Island Fox, and spotted many Island Scrub Jays. The Scorpion Ranch Visitor Center transported me back in time. For first time visitors, Santa Cruz was ideal. It was a twofold adventure – hiking and an exciting boat ride over the channel. Saturday morning was Farmers Market in the heart of downtown; we were surprised to see Mission San Buenaventura. We had Lucky Thai Cuisine for two meals and Brophy Bros. for seafood delights. The Ventura Pottery Gallery fulfilled my shopping for supporting local artists. I hope I have piqued your curiosity and you'll add the Channel Islands National Park on your list. Juana Alamos Scuba dives The westbrook's Ventura weekend Santa Cruz Island is a great spot to explore. I can hear the ocean calling me. Maybe for the last time, I pulled out my gear and got re-certified at Scuba Schools of America. Hiring my dive master is pricey but well worth the thrill, excitement, and the calm. All you hear is the beat of your heart. I had a dive buddy to join me as I jumped off the dive boat. I like exploring caves, coves, and various landscapes of the ocean. Visiting with the dolphins, the colorful fish, and rock formations make a fun-filled dive. I encourage anyone to go and have a fascinating and thrilling experience. Get certified and never dive alone. After all, Jacque Cousteau's last dive was at 78. Why not me? Once you jump into the ocean, you're weightless. Hope you go for it.
