42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2024
The initial meeting of the Four Seasons Opera Club was held last month. We reviewed a relatively rarely
performed French opera, Lakme, by Leo Delibes. Whereas Lakme isn't well known, the "Flower Duet" early in
the first act is one of the most widely known music in the entire opera canon. We also touched upon the second
act aria known as the "Bell Song."
This month we will explore Die Zauberflöte (e Magic Flute) by Mozart. We will continue our review of
stunning pieces with the "Queen of the Night" aria. Who sings it best? We will start with Diana Damrau. Bring
the name of your favorite performer and we can all share in that delight.
Also, we will explore the possibility of a Saturday field trip to attend a Met Opera in HD performance of
Verdi's La Forza del Destino.
Join us as we continue this magnificent adventure. ~ Harvey Toyama, yukito@yukito.net, (951) 524-3765

I have learned a new word: CAMPANOLOGY. Do you know
the meaning of this word? The simple answer is: the art of bell-
ringing.
Wikipedia says, "Campanology is the scientific and musical
study of bells. It encompasses the technology of bells – how they
are founded, tuned, and rung – as well as the history, methods, and
traditions of bellringing as an art. It is common to collect together
a set of tuned bells and treat the whole as one musical instrument."
We had a great Christmas concert/sing-a-long in December. Our
next concert is scheduled for June 6. Stay turned for details. Hope
you will come and enjoy Campanology. ~ Kathie Sundstrom,

Classical Music Club
We are classical music lovers with an interest in sharing our love
of, knowledge about, and interest in classical music. We meet on
the second Thursday of each month at 7 pm in The Lodge Theater.
We listen to and watch musical selections on the big screen. Each
month we focus on a particular work or several selections of one
composer. We also discuss current musical performances in the
area. We welcome new members. Contact Steve Benoff at steve.
