50 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2024 This is the perspective of the artist of the month, Roberto Cuarezma. "Several months ago someone suggested that I would enjoy attending the Mixed Media Art class, but I was not sure I wanted to do it. Though it was a very long time ago, I remembered how much I enjoyed art class in high school. Since my accident, I've found staying focused on a single particular task has been very challenging for me. Reluctantly, I agreed to give it a try. I figured I could attend a couple of classes and if I did not like it I could just stop. As it turns out, I did like it! Now I look forward to my Monday morning art class. With the help and guidance of the instructor, Rob Kelman, I have completed the first three assigned pencil drawings. I am currently working on my fourth project. I'm learning new techniques and I feel much more confident about my drawing skills. It is very fulfilling to transform a blank page into a work of art." Classes are Mondays from 10 am to 12 pm and/or Wednesdays from 6 to 8 pm. There is a nominal $5 fee per person, per session. If you have any questions, call Rob Kelman at (951) 992-9156. ~ Rob Kelman Mixed Media Arts TOPS Well, not trying all those holiday goodies was tough for all of us. New Year's resolutions are about to be discarded, if they haven't been already. But here at TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) we see this setback as a chance for a fresh start with new goals, and hope for a healthier 2024. To begin, goals should be set the SMART way: "Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. SMART goals help you feel successful because you can reach these goals on a regular basis … and who doesn't want that? You can adjust a goal slightly to make it more doable. When you feel successful you will want to keep going. It's better to achieve a smaller goal, losing weight slower over time, than barreling ahead and giving up or sliding back to old habits. Here are three examples: I will write down what I eat for at least three days. I will get more exercise on weekdays by walking 20 minutes each day until the temperature drops below freezing or rises above 100 degrees. I will cut 100 calories once a day by substituting water for a different beverage for one month. When you set goals this way, you are defining a solid plan with small reasonable steps that you can accomplish in a specific time. TOPS members have used this plan successfully. You may find that a group like TOPS can help you as well. We meet on Tuesdays at 8:30 am in the Ballroom. If you have any ideas for activities for our club events, please contact Barbara Dipoma or one of us with those ideas. Our next meeting is Feb. 8 at 5:30 pm at The Courts. We are planning an Italian Trivia Game where our members are divided into teams to answer questions presented by none other than our trivia master, Joe Barletta. Joe will come up with the questions and the Italian American Club will have prizes for the winning tables. It will be a lot of fun and will test our knowledge of "all that's Italian." The Italian American Club is open to all residents of Four Seasons. You do not have to be Italian to join our group or come to our meetings. We would love to have you come visit with us. To all our club members and all residents of Four Seasons, we hope your holiday season was healthy and happy, and that 2024 will be a great year for all of us.
