18 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2024 | Sun Lakes Committee Reports The December issue of Lifestyles Magazine provided an excellent overview of the activity of the Master Architectural Committee (MAC) relating to the applications we reviewed during 2023. This month I'll provide a step-by-step way to navigate the Sun Lakes website to find information about regulations the MAC follows to guide us in helping to maintain Sun Lakes as a top 55+ community in California. A comment we hear often in the process of doing our job serving as volunteers on the Master Architectural Committee is, "I didn't know that." Surprising as that seems, it's true. How many of you carefully read the CC&Rs you received when you purchased a home here at Sun Lakes? You actually did sign that you had read them. You can read your copy of those original documents or find them on the Sun Lakes website here: Community Info / Governing Documents / Sun Lakes CC / CC&Rs with Amendments. Related to our activity, you need to be aware of our COMMITTEE CHARTER at Community Info / Committees / Architectural Committee / Charter - Master Architectural Comm.pdf. This governs how we operate in concert with the Planning & Compliance Department. They are located in the HOA Administration building and are ready to assist you in preparing your applications to make changes or updates to your property. SPECIFIC ARCHITECTURAL STANDARDS are included as part of the Rules & Regulation. You can find them in the Community Info / Governing Documents / SUN LAKES CC / Rules & Regulation / Article XI / Article VII. They start with 7.1 Air Conditioners and end with 7.35 Exercise Equipment. A good exercise is to look for something about exterior lighting. Use the above information and go to ARTICLE VII 7.12 Exterior Lighting on page 75. All of our holiday lighting is down now, or should be, and packed away for another year. As you consider making changes to your exterior lighting, consider the guidelines the MAC is required to follow. They are listed in section 7.12 a, b, c, d, e, f and g. The 40-watt limit listed under item 7.12 b converts to 550 Lumens. So before you buy a light fixture or lamp, prepare and submit a request for approval be sure it complies. ~ David Marshall Kealy, Vice Chairman, Master Architectural Committee Master Architectural Congratulations to the winners of the Christmas Home Decorating Contest: First Place - George Mikuljian; Second Place - Ron and Sandra Glickman; and Third Place (tie) - Walt and Jeannette Ingram and Dan and Carmen Snook.
