For membership information, contact Sherry Case at (951) 533-3584 or Linda Powers at (951) 769-3101 On Feb. 14, this month's guest speaker is Linda Vieira, who will be shedding light on the fascinating world of seaweed, alternatively referred to as seaweed cultivation or mariculture. During her presentation, Linda will delve into the myriad of environmental advantages associated with this practice. She will enlighten us as to how seaweed aqua farming can absorb carbon dioxide from the water, effectively aiding in the mitigation of ocean acidification and fostering the development of a more robust marine ecosystem. Love Blooms in February. Why not celebrate Valentine's month in the Garden? As we bid farewell to January's frosty embrace, February beckons with its own unique charm. While Valentine's Day takes center stage, the garden is not to be forgotten during this romantic month. February offers a special opportunity to celebrate love and nature hand in hand. Here's how you can infuse your garden with romance this month: gardening is not just about soil and plants, it's also about nurturing relationships. Invite your loved ones or your Garden Club friends for a cozy garden gathering. Share stories and knowledge while sipping hot cocoa or herbal teas. Create a warm, inviting atmosphere with soft lighting, candles, and perhaps a garden-inspired playlist to set the mood. Valentine's Day is all about expressing love and affection. Plant symbolic blooms like red roses for passionate love, lavender for devotion, or forget-me-nots to cherish memories. These flowers not only add color and fragrance to your garden but also convey your heartfelt sentiments. Get creative with your Garden Club members by crafting Valentine's Day cards with a botanical twist. Collect dried leaves, petals, and twigs to make unique, nature-inspired cards. Share the joy of gardening and love through these thoughtful handmade gestures. Though February still brings cold weather, it's the perfect time to engage in some winter gardening. Plant cool-season vegetables like lettuce, spinach, and kale. The act of nurturing these plants with friends can be a bonding experience, and the delicious harvest will be a testament to your affection for both each other and gardening. Instead of traditional bouquets, consider gifting potted plants to your loved ones this Valentine's Day. A potted rose, a fragrant herb, or a colorful succulent not only symbolize love but also continue to thrive and remind your loved ones of your affection throughout the year. Enhance your garden's aesthetics by incorporating heart-shaped decorations. Hang heart-themed wind chimes, birdhouses, or even heart-shaped stepping stones. These additions not only evoke a sense of love but also attract birds and pollinators, bringing your garden to life. February is associated with Valentine's Day, but it can also be a month filled with love for the garden. Embrace the opportunity to combine romance and gardening, and you'll find that your heart and your garden will both bloom with beauty and vitality. Happy gardening and happy Valentine's month! Garden Club How is your portfolio doing? Are you satisfied with your investment advisor? Would you like to feel comfortable trading stocks and possibly even options? Come join the Sun Lakes Investor Group. Some of our members invest on their own while others have advisors along with overseeing some of their own investments. We meet on Mondays from 4 to 5:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. The Investor Group is led by Ajit Desai and Allen Jaszcar. Ajit has been trading for several decades. He follows and teaches the CANSLIM methodology for stock selection and trading that was pioneered by William O'Neill, the founder of Investors Business Daily. We discuss stocks that our members are interested in, growth stocks that offer good returns, when to buy, when to sell, etc. Ajit also incorporates option trading to enhance portfolio returns. We look at and talk about real time numbers and pertinent information over the internet during our meetings. We are tuned into market trends, and although no one has a crystal ball, it's important to have information to make wise or at least informed decisions. We do not invest as a group, nor do we discuss dollar amounts of members' portfolios or trades. That's your business, not ours. If this piques your "interest," come visit. It is a Sun Lakes Group, so there are no dues or bylaws. Joining us may turn out to be the best investment of your time, which could lead to superior returns on your portfolio.
