| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | FEBRUARY 2024 | 63 On Dec. 17, the Sun Lakes Tennis Club elected new officers to this year's Executive Board, which is now poised to arrange another full range of tennis enjoyment. Scheduled activities and events in 2024 will continue in the consistent and effective manner of the past year, including Tuesdays and Thursdays Drop-In Mixed Doubles Mixers that start at 8 am (all are welcome, regardless of skill levels); first Saturday of the month mixers that remain open to all Sun Lakes residents regardless of skill level; and Intermediate and Advanced Clinics on the second Monday evening of each month. All Sun Lakes residents are invited to take part the morning of Sat., Feb. 3 for a Skills Session followed by a Mixed Doubles Mixer. The time for this event will be provided by email to club members. Balls are provided. Then, for Mon., Feb. 12 at 5 pm, plan to sign-up for our Intermediate and Advanced Skills Session. A limit of 12 can register and take part. The cost per participant is $2 for Club members, $5 for guests. According to a former Club President, "We are a social club that also plays tennis." The Club will continue to host a number of social gatherings. Our February social event has not yet been determined at the writing of this article. However, our Executive Board members expect to prepare an activity for Feb. 19 at the South Clubhouse and/or tennis courts. All residents of Sun Lakes are welcome to use our first-class courts, six in all, located adjacent to the South Clubhouse. The rules for court use are clearly posted. The courts, for example, are not to be used as play areas for pets, or for riding on bicycles and skateboards. Further, Tennis Club scheduled activities always take precedence. We thank Sun Lakers for your kind consideration. Finally, a Tennis Tip by Phil Hazelton who offers a rule related to the game of doubles. According to Phil, if one player hits a volley into the open court for what seems to be a sure winner, but before the ball can bounce, another ball from the other court flies in and hits that ball, "What if your opponents want to call a let?" The ruling: (this is a rare situation) Call it a hindrance, and replay the point. Remember, always, to keep your eye on the ball and the fun in your game. Tennis As we go to press, we are over halfway through our 32 weeks of bowling. Time sure "rolls along" when you're having fun. Here are the stats as of Dec.18.
