18 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2024 | The Golf Advisory Committee is composed of nine members representing the three Championship Course clubs, three Executive Course clubs, and three At-Large members. GAC club representatives for 2024 are Doug Jensen (Men's Golf Club), Sandy Howell (Women's Golf Club), Judy Jones (Lady Niners), Michele Clark (Ladies Executive Golf Club), Jon Litty (Executive Men's Club), and Bob Henrich (Saturday Morning Golf Group). The At-Large members are Mary Wilkie, Tony Browne, and Mike Callahan. Members chosen by each golf club are granted the authority to make decisions on behalf of their membership. At-Large members are chosen from resident homeowners submitting a volunteer interest form. The Master Board makes final approval of all members following recommendation by the GAC. The mission of the GAC is to advise the Master Board on issues regarding safety, maintenance, and playability of SLCC's two golf courses. Our first priority is to address any safety concerns of golfers or residents. These mainly involve trip-and-fall hazards due to cart path damage and dangers posed by overgrown trees. Golf course maintenance inspections are conducted with Mark Burchfield each month. Recommending golf course repair/replacement projects to the infrastructure of these facilities is an important part. In addition to course maintenance, we help clubs with playability concerns involving course set up or local club rules. The GAC makes recommendations to the Master Board to properly maintain the golf courses, but more importantly, maintain the value of these assets for the benefit of all homeowners. Golf Advisory Sun Lakes Committee Reports Lifestyles Magazine is the resource most residents turn to in order to find out what's going on in our community. At 80 pages, it includes pictures from residents plus articles from the Master Board, Delegate Assembly, FirstService, the Restaurant, the golf pro, and all the advisory committees. Clubs and groups send articles and photos about their activities to Sunlakesnews@yahoo.com by the 6th of each month. The LAC meets on the seventh of each month, unless otherwise specified, to review and edit the articles submitted for each month's issue of the magazine. We meet with a Master Board liaison, Assistant General Manager Jason Ewals, and the Recreation Director Manager to keep updated about events coming up in our community. We also publish want ads and for-sale items from residents at no cost and hide a monthly joke for residents to find. Responses to our "Get the Joke" contest are put in a hat and a winner is randomly drawn, earning a restaurant gift card as a prize. Photographs taken by residents of areas within Sun Lakes are used on the magazine cover. We've added three new members to our committee: Marti Peck, Donna Henning, and Shirley Anderson. Welcome! If you're good at proofreading and are interested in joining us, please fill out a volunteer application form that you can get in the Main Clubhouse lobby. Lifestyles Advisory Since Sun Lakes has no formal book clubs, some have proposed starting a library book club with authors as guest speakers. If you have any suggestions for books and authors, please contact Peter Fernandez at pxfvet@yahoo.com or John Hasha at hashajohn@ gmail.com. Come and browse our four libraries! The libraries are self-serve with no checkout procedures and no due dates. Please return the books to the appropriate library after reading them. The South Clubhouse Library has added new books to the collection, including mystery, romance, westerns, and puzzles. The North Clubhouse Library has nonfiction, romance, mystery, general fiction, western, and puzzles. The Main Clubhouse Library has hardbacks in the Fireplace Lounge with romance, general fiction, and mystery. The Paperback Room has romance, general fiction, mystery, and westerns. Browse our collection because nothing is as relaxing as reading a good book. Don't forget our Book Sale on March 2 from 9 am to 1 pm during the Spring Craft Fair. Library Advisory Spring Book Sale March 2 9 am - 1 pm at the Spring Cra Fair in the Main Clubhouse Ba room
