| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2024 | 51 Happy Cookers May your pots be ever full, your recipes be ever delicious, and your culinary adventures always bring joy to your heart and table. Sláinte! The Happy Cookers, a delightful group of food enthusiasts, have a standing appointment on the fourth Friday of the month, like clockwork at 11 am, where they transform the South Clubhouse into a hub of mouthwatering adventures. On, Fri., March 22, their gathering is taking a special twist as they set sail for the Emerald Isle – Ireland! This March meeting promises to be an Irish extravaganza like no other! Members will be contributing their unforgettable Irish dishes, donning green outfits to pay homage to the Irish spirit, and together, we'll create a vibrant celebration of all things Irish. The Irish celebration of St. Patrick's Day is observed on March 17. This global festivity commemorates St. Patrick, Ireland's patron saint, and is celebrated with vibrant parades, lively festivals, and, of course, sumptuous feasts. Traditional Irish dishes take center stage, showcasing the depth and flavor of the country's culinary heritage. Some favorite dishes that command the spotlight are the classic Irish stew, colcannon, and Irish soda bread. As for me, I like to indulge in the art of crafting the perfect Irish Coffee, a delightful elixir that awakens the senses and warms the soul. So let me walk you through my way of making the perfect Irish Coffee: In a vessel worthy of your finest libations, pour three tablespoons of the nectar of the Emerald Isle — Jameson Irish whiskey. This is the soul of your Irish Coffee, the elixir that will infuse it with a touch of magic. But wait, there is more to this alchemy. Sweetness is the key to balancing the robust notes of whiskey and coffee. You have a choice, but allow me to introduce you to a superior option. Two teaspoons of luscious maple syrup that will caress your senses. Unlike regular sugar, it blends in with unparalleled grace, leaving an impression that is both delicate and profound. Now take your favorite roast of coffee, still warm, and pour it into the mug. Fill the vessel to three- quarters full, leaving just enough space, a half- inch of anticipation, for the final flourish. And now, the pièce de résistance, the crowning glory of your Irish Coffee — real whipping cream. As light as a whisper, as velvety as a dream, it floats gently atop your brew. With every sip, you are transported to a world where flavors converge in divine harmony. The warmth of the whiskey, the sweetness of maple syrup, the boldness of coffee, and the ethereal embrace of cream — all united in a single, exquisite dance upon your palate. This, my dear friend, is the embodiment of the perfect Irish Coffee, a masterpiece crafted with flair and finesse, just for you — Sláinte! As our Irish cooking adventure unfolds, may the flavors and traditions of Ireland continue to inspire us in our culinary pursuits. Remember that a meal shared with friends is a taste of heaven on earth. ~ Raelene Kretchman, Publicity. Arlene's Breakfast Club is a wonderful gathering of Sun Lakes ladies.
