Welcome to March. There are several dates to look forward to this month, including the following: • March 8 - International Women's Day • March 10 - Daylight Saving Time begins, giving us that "extra hour of light" • March 17 - St. Patrick's Day • March 19 - Spring officially begins; time to enjoy the wildflowers • March 31 - Easter We now know the candidates for our Board election in April. This year, there are four positions open. We thank all the candidates who are willing to donate their time and energy in serving the residents of our community. The overall objective of the board is to work together and make Four Seasons a wonderful place to live. In 2018, your Board established standards for current and future Board members. A Vision and Mission Statement was defined. In addition, a Values Statement was developed. A Mission Statement defines what an organization does; the Vision Statement defines where it wants to go; and Values define how it operates. Our 12 Values set the foundations for our association and ensures the Board members and residents are aligned in a common purpose. Here are three Values of note: "Collaborative work efforts among Board members, Management, Committees, and Community members to achieve a sense of community." The Board doesn't operate in a bubble; we interact with various groups to fulfill our responsibilities. We try to achieve a synergistic impact. "Financial sustainability through responsible fiscal management." Preparing a budget every year requires more than estimating the cost of maintenance and repairs. Market trends, historical data, and vendor changes are just a few items that must be considered. "Quality maintenance of physical and landscape assets." Pretty much self-explanatory, but thanks to key committees and their attention to detail, we will keep our community looking its best. In a February E-Blast: "Community Safety Reminders," some important information was shared. With people moving in, we should get to know our new residents. It can start with a friendly wave and continue with affable conversation. Being a gated community does not, in itself, guarantee safety. We all need to use common sense by knowing our neighbors and how we all can help each other. Sharing emergency contact information, knowing if people live alone, and if they have pets can be helpful. Knowing the number to call for Roving Patrol and not hesitating to call 911 during an emergency are important. A community where neighbors lookout for each other reduces the opportunities for bad actors to infiltrate. Your Board encourages everyone to build strong relationships and have open communications with your neighbors to maintain a safe Four Seasons. Here are some interesting facts about HOAs: • United States: In 1970, there were about 10,000 HOAs. Now there are almost 370,000 community associations with over 75 million residents. • California: There are about 50,000 HOAs, with 7 million homes, and 14 million residents. "The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members."
