| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MARCH 2024 | 7 e Paseo Project: Finding Solutions to Different Landscape Challenges. Hard to believe it has been almost seven months since the Paseo Project was started in East Legends. The grass areas were removed in the Legends Homeowners Association "common" area, included; between the Paseo walkway and View Fence of the golf course, embracing Spyglass Paseo, Skokie Paseo and Sherwood Paseo. Objectives of the project included: • Address the appearance of grass continually damaged by gophers from the golf course. • Reducing the potable water needed to water the grass. We attempted to implement water recycling in this area, as we did at West Legends in 2018. Unfortunately, this was not possible. But the ability to get monthly water savings based on the amount of grass removed was an incentive. The Landscape Committee (known as the LSC), actively worked behind the scenes, making sure we were on time and in compliance with regulations to apply for rebates for the grass removal program with EMWD and the City of Hemet. There were requirements needed to obtain the rebates for the project: • The plants selected were chosen were to be "California-friendly," waterwise and intended for our climate, • Plants requiring little or no maintenance; a minimum of square footage of turf needed to be removed, and specified types of irrigation, drainage and hardscape were part of the proposal. It is satisfying to see that the overall goal was met. The project was completed, the rebates were applied, and the Paseo is looking better every day. This has given us more incentive to continue to look for rebates for other projects that would enhance our landscape, and finding ways to reduce water and stay within budget. You may consider that the project is finished, the LSC does not. The Paseo project and other efforts organized and proposed by the LSC and approved by our Board of Directors, are organic projects — that is, they are under constant analysis. The LSC, on a monthly basis, is continually inspecting plants and trees, looking for irrigation issues, and evaluating what works and what doesn't. We recommend materials and gather information to select new plants and listen to the Legends residents' comments and suggestions. Because in the end it all comes down to LCS mission: working for the service and beautification of our community, at Four Seasons Hemet. ~ Robert Linares, LSC Volunteer Legends Residents: Please mark your calendars for a residents meeting in the Ballroom on Thurs., March 14 at 6 pm.
