42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2024 The Four Seasons Opera Club established regular meetings on the second Saturday of the month at 10 am in the RCN. However, the March meeting will be held off-site to attend the Metropolitan Opera Live in HD simulcast. This month's simulcast will be Verdi's "La Forza del Destino." We will meet at the Lodge at 8 am to form carpools to a theatre in the Palm Springs area for the 9 am curtain time. Our February meeting focused on Mozart's "The Magic Flute." We compared different versions of the Queen of the Night Aria. The Queen of the Night actually had two scintillating arias, "O zittre nicht" and "Der Hölle Rache." These arias have been performed within the fully staged opera and separately in concert by many of the world's leading operatic sopranos. We followed this exploration with a screening of the Royal Opera House 2003 performance with Diana Damrau in the role of the Queen. Our next meeting on April 13 will be the screening of Donizetti's comic opera, "L'Elisir d'Amore" (The Elixir of Love) featuring the Mexican tenor, Rolando Villazón and the Russian soprano, Anna Netrebko. This historic performance from the Vienna Staatsoper is notable for a now unheard of encore of the titular aria. Join us as we continue this magnificent adventure. ~ Harvey Toyama, yukito@yukito.net, (951) 524-3765 Opera Club Handbell Choir Adopt-a-Bell is still available. At our Christmas concert, two bells were adopted. Ingrid Munsterman, in honor of Patrick Munsterman, is now the proud "owner" of E3. Sue Abel now has D3. There are seven bells left to be "adopted." We will be starting to practice music for our concert on June 6. We will be playing some Americana songs. A Stephen Foster medley will bring back memories of music class in grade school. It should be a fun night. ~ Kathie Sundstrom, (303) 903-6850, kathryn.buck@ comcast.net Classical Music Club We are classical music lovers with an interest in sharing our love of, knowledge about, and interest in classical music. We meet on the second Thursday of each month at 7 pm in The Lodge Theater. We listen to and watch musical selections on the big screen. Each month we focus on a particular work or several selections of one composer. We also discuss current musical performances in the area. We welcome new members.
