26 | THE COLONY NEWS | MARCH 2024 | Has 2024 seemed like it's happened so soon? Perhaps that's to remind us we should not put off doing bucket list things. So, if you ever had a wish to play an instrument, now is a great time to learn to play the ukulele! We would love to have you visit us any Friday at 1 pm in the Annex. We can teach you how to play this easy instrument and you can sing and laugh with us. You may call me for more information. Strummers By Judy Moore, 949-468-7375 Our March book is the delightfully quirky Ladder of Years by Anne Tyler. It starts with a missing person headline in the papers: "Baltimore Woman Disappears During Family Vacation. Last seen walking south along Delaware shore wearing a bathing suit and carrying a beach tote.'' Forty-year-old Delia did not plan to walk away from it all. She feels like an extra in her family's lives, "a tiny gnat buzzing around the edges." Her impulse will lead her to a new, unimagined life. Will she stay with the new or return to the old? The Book Readers meet on Wednesday, March 13, at 10:30 am in the Meeting Room. Book Readers By Gail Hydle, 310-779-5982 Anyone ready for a field trip? We have one planned for you! The Carlsbad Flower Fields are calling our names. Although a bus ride would be nice, the cost of the bus plus the Flower Fields admission fee is a little pricey. So, we decided to ask a few of you to help with the driving. Tickets to the Flower Fields need to be purchased online ahead of time. A tractor/wagon ride through the fields is available, but those tickets are optional and purchased when we arrive. The Windmill Food Hall is across the street and appears to offer a variety of food choices. We thought that sounded like a good lunch stop. We will visit the Carlsbad Flower Fields Tour and Lunch at the Windmill Food Hall on Tuesday, March 26. We will leave from The Colony parking lot at 9 am. Purchase tickets online for the 10:30 am tour. Price is $21 + $2.81 service fee. Wagon ride is $8. It should not take us 90 minutes to get to Carlsbad, but we are allowing for traffic, a restroom break before the tour, and possibly a short visit to Armstrong Nursery. Please email me at goldenmom2finn@gmail.com or phone me if you plan to join us or have any questions. Also, please let me know if you are willing to be a driver and the number of people your vehicle can carry. Jane Payne and I will both be driving, and we each can carry four people in addition to ourselves. I hope you can join us! Petal Pushers Garden Club By Gloria Brosky, 714-292-8507
