28 | THE COLONY NEWS | MARCH 2024 | Do you know how the Colony Cousins Genealogy Club got its name? When the club was formed in 1997 and members started discussing their genealogy, several found that they had ancestors who were related and who came to America on the Mayflower. It turned out that the club members were cousins, so they added that to the club name. The Genealogy Club welcomes you to our Tuesday, March 12, meeting at 1 pm in the Annex where we will begin a two-month series called "Your Photo Story Workshop." For March, bring a photo and write one paragraph about it, which you can read to the group. For April, we will ask you to write a longer story, one to two pages, which will also be read/shared with the group. Inset left is a mysterious photo that one of our members had in his family artifacts. Our member will describe how he used Google tools to find a modern-day image (below) to locate the city where it was taken. Our new member drive continues, and we invite you to join us. Dues for 2024 are $25 for an individual and $30 for a family. Contact Greg Griffes at mosesscrolls@gmail.com for a membership form. Our meeting will start promptly at 1 pm, so please plan to sign in at 12:45 pm. For questions, please contact Lennie Martin at (503) 269-9987 or lenniem07@yahoo.com. Genealogy By Greg Griffes, 951-383-9988 Actors Studio By Marsha Tobolski, 562-244-9223 St. Patrick's Day is fast approaching. To tie in with the celebration, our production of Irish Eyes Murder Mystery will be presented on Saturday, March 16, and Sunday, March 17. Cocktails will begin at 5 pm and the show and dinner start at 6 pm. It is an event you do not want to miss! Both evenings will include a traditional Irish dinner, Irish music, an Irish pub atmosphere, and a "Who Done It?" play with audience participation. What a great way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day! Tickets are $40 and have been selling quickly. All seats are reserved. If you are interested in attending, please contact me no later than the first week in March to see if any tickets are still available.
