| THE COLONY NEWS | MARCH 2024 | 29 The RV Club was off to a fast start with the first trip of the year to Pechanga RV Park. There were 10 people who braved the heavy rains in early February and camped at the park. Sadly, Wendell Jackson realized the mattress in his RV became a waterbed and he had to leave early. We had several Colony Glampers who stayed at the resort or drove up to enjoy a dinner potluck, visiting and games. We were able to secure their clubhouse, allowing us to all visit together and stay warm and dry. The next day we had a lively group for breakfast. After free time in the afternoon, we went out for Taco Tuesday. The next trip is to Rio Bend Resort in El Centro in mid-March. We also have a trip to a new RV Park in Coachella Valley scheduled for November. More information will follow as we develop the schedule for the full year. If you are interested in any of these trips as Campers or Glampers or want more information on The Colony Roadrunners RV Club, contact Laurie at 714-330-0160. Listen or Sing… oh, the Fun it Will Bring! The Colony Karaoke group has been around for almost 17 years. About a year ago, I actually decided to go check it out. Sitting in the audience and watching the singers, I thought, "I can do that!" But I never did. Then last summer, fellow residents Angie and Steve Tiplitski, who were singing at the twice-a-month Karaoke nights, encouraged me to try it. I chose a song that had special memories for me, one that played over and over when I took a cruise YEARS AGO with one of my best friends. And when I started singing the song, the memories rushed back, full force! I had so much fun, I've become a regular singer at Tuesday Karaoke nights. NO ONE at Colony Karaoke is a "professional." We are just people who enjoy singing. Mary Ann Plummer and Jeri Huestis told me they've been coming to and performing at Karaoke nights since the beginning. Mary Ann sings songs from years ago — usually by her favorite artists — that make her happy. Jeri performs songs from the '50s and '60s that bring back special memories. Jan Prytz has been coming to Karaoke for about a year. Does she sing? NO! But she knew some of the performers and came to support them. She enjoys being a part of the audience and singing along, loves the oldies, and finds this a great place to socialize. Experts say that music can comfort you and remind you of the best days of your life. It can provide a boost to keep your brain healthier longer. Enjoying social time with friends, including music and singing along with others, helps create those positive, or "feel good," feelings. After all, seeing your friends at Karaoke, listening to those "brave souls" get up and sing, singing along with them, or even performing your own song in front of a group of fun people, all while enjoying an adult beverage … what better way to spend a Tuesday evening? If there's something that you enjoy, do it as much as you can! For more information about how to sing, contact Connie O'Brien at 951-696-1796, obriencr@verizon.net OR, just come see us perform! IT'S FREE AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO SING! Karaoke is the first and third Tuesday of every month, from 6 to 9 pm. Hope to see you soon!
