42 | OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2024 | Lessons: Many of you have asked for copies of the Basic Lessons we offered recently. Good news! Both the Basic Lesson handouts and videos of the lessons are available on the OHCC Billiard Club website at https//ohccbilliards.wixsite. com/billiardsclub/basics. Watch any lesson you missed. Brush up on topics you'd like to review. Back the video up and watch one part several times to be sure you got it. 8-Ball: Considering that 8-Ball is our most popular game, one that all of us play, you'd figure that everyone knows the rules. But you'd be wrong! Come on down Thurs., March 7, at 1:30 pm and learn some things about the game that you should know but may not. This lesson is for beginners who simply want to know how to play the game. This lesson is for intermediate players who would like to learn to play a better game. This lesson is for experienced players who think they know all the rules. Will you be able to say, "I knew it all?" Competition: "Tournament" can be a scary word – but not here! Our tournaments are friendly social activities, designed to help players learn new games and meet new people. That's especially true of our Beginners 8-Ball Practice Tournament, which is designed to help new players see how our tournaments are run and allow them to put a toe into the tournament waters. You don't have to be a good player! In fact, you need no skills or knowledge at all! Just show up and we'll help you participate and have fun: Thurs., March 14 at 1:30 pm. No prizes, just a good time. The official 2024 Billiards Club competition kicks off on Thurs., March 28 at 1:30 pm. Our Team 8-Ball Tournament will have teams with one A and one B player. Since the A and B players trade shots this is a good chance for B players to see how A players approach the game and to pick up some pointers on strategy and shot selection. The winning team members will each get a Club Tournament Winner's Visor, a cash prize, AND a photo right here in the OHCC Living Magazine which they can copy and send to everyone they know. Best of all, they will be immortalized with a bronze plaque on our Wall of Champions! Written by Charlie Payne Billiards Golf Club As I write this article on Feb. 4, we are being pounded by another atmospheric river and our golf course is closed indefinitely, though the guy in the photo didn't seem to get the memo. But let's review a few bits of news and look ahead to some upcoming events. The latest OHGC Golf Club General Meeting was held on Wed., Jan. 17. Pizza and refreshments were the main attractions, but some people attended to get the latest golf club updates, which included the naming of the new directors of the club: Bob Fisher, Debbie Machnick, Alan Colson, and Tom Vaccaro. Also announced were the numerous Hole in One Winners for January: Greg Coffey, Lyle Conifrey, Lynn Fuller, Allen Cox, Lois Russell, Kim East, Scott Taylor, Babu Patrose, Mike Mallory, Gary Webb, and Don Humphrey. Congratulations to all these Aces! Tournaments happening in the next few months include Guys and Dolls on Sat., March 16. I'm going to guess that there will be a Saint Patrick's Day theme attached to that event. The first Touring Amateurs will take place on Mon., April 15 at Native Oaks. And tentatively scheduled, based on the progress of the lanai and the lake, our first, long delayed Special Tournament will occur on Mon., and Tues., June 3 and 4. The tourney is chaired by Judy and Peter Fry and Marshall Kelsay and sponsored by Fairwinds Ivy Ranch. Thanks once again to all our volunteers and sponsors. Stay dry!
