| OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2024 | 33 Spring has perked up its head, and life is buzzing around the Sewing, etc. room. March promises some exciting new classes for our group. For those of you who always wanted to know how to use a serger, Sat., March 16 is your opportunity to do so! Napkins and placemats will be the projects, and our club has three sergers to practice and learn on. Thursday, March 21 will be a class in how to make a "Wonder Wallet." It is a perfectly sized small wallet for carrying with you when you are out and about. Also, we have our upcoming series of "beginning quilting" classes. In April, there will be four consecutive Saturdays (and you need to commit to all four), that will teach you all you need to know to begin to quilt. We have had many requests for a class like this and are planning to repeat the series in June because the classes are limited to eight participants. Basic sewing skills and machine operating skills are required for these classes. Sign-up sheets are available in the Sewing Room. Our regular get-togethers remain in place as always. Our Kneedlers (knitters) and Hookers (crocheters) gather on Tuesdays from 3 to 4:30 pm and are always looking for excuses to practice their knitting and crocheting, and to offer guidance. Also, on Tuesday evenings (6 to 8 pm) and Fridays (12 to 3 pm) several quilters, knitters, crocheters and sewers get together for "Sew & Chats." Both of these gatherings are loosely structured and help to keep us in touch. We meet monthly on the first Thursday in the Mykonos Room at 9:30 am (social time begins at 9:15 am), and if you're a member or just checking us out, please feel free to join us! Don't forget about our "rideshare" service to meetings and workshops that are held in our clubhouse. Club Club W Club W is a widow's group to help you transform your grief after experiencing great loss of a loved one into a positive, purposeful future while embracing your own strength and courage. We know the unique challenges you are facing, so join us to build new friendships, and a safe and encouraging OHCC community as you walk this path with others who understand our journey. We need each other and we're stronger together. As widows helping other widows, we offer activities, newsletters, luncheons, fun and games, events, monthly speakers, and more. Together, we help each other with hope, healing, and a new pathway to widowhood. We want to transform loss into forward momentum, ultimately focusing on your health, not your grief. Did you know that 70 percent of married women will face widowhood in their lives and one third of widows are between the ages of 50-59 years. Regardless of the age they're widowed. Our club provides a safe place to gather and talk, create friendships, try new things or go new places, enjoy shared experiences, and support one another. We meet the third Saturday of most months at 10 am in Abravanel Hall for coffee, and interesting speakers. Membership is $10/year. Social contact is a powerful tool for widows.
