| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2024 | 9 The final draft of the Governing Policy Manual was submitted to the Master Board, Organization Policy/Process Analysis (OPA) Task Force members, and FirstService Residential for their review and comment. A meeting was held with all parties to address questions and comments. Final revisions were incorporated into the manual. The next step will be implementation, wherein the newly elected Board will decide whether to engage Sequoia Grove Consulting to provide a proposal for next steps. Also discussed was the idea of establishing a "Governing Policy Implementation Advisory Committee" to support the Board and FirstService with implementation and on-going education of Governing Policy for SLCC. During the Community Awareness program in March, the task force provided an overview of the OPA offering insights into the project: history, objectives, completed tasks, and next steps. Chris Mitchell, FirstService General Manager, shared his perspective on the significance of a governance policy to the management company. Sequoia Grove successfully completed the project as proposed to the current Board ahead of schedule and within budget. The responsibility now rests with the newly elected Master Board to proceed with the project. The task force urges the community to encourage the incoming Board to make Governing Policy implementation a high priority. We hope the newly-elected Board members will recognize the importance of a robust governance policy in holding both the management company and the Board accountable to the community. The Governance Task Force extends gratitude to the Master Board for their trust and the opportunity to contribute to this vital community project. Stay tuned for updates following the election. SLCC Governance/Organization Process Analysis (OPA) Project By Michele Walter, crystalwater@dc.rr.com If you missed the presentation for the Sun Lakes Blvd. extension and our Organization Policy/Process Analysis (OPA) Task Force, you can watch it on Channel 97. is will give you insight on what the city is planning for the extension. It will also give your more information on why the OPA Task Force was created. Want to conquer fear and prevent crime? Take these common- sense precautions. • Be alert when out and about. • Go with friends or family, not alone. • Carry your purse close to your body, not dangling by the straps. Put your wallet in an inside coat or front pants pocket. • Don't carry credit cards you don't need or large amounts of cash. • Use direct deposit for Social Security and other regular checks. • Whether you're a passenger or driver, keep car doors locked. • Be particularly alert in parking lots and garages. Park near an entrance. • If someone or something makes you uneasy, trust your instincts and leave. Protect your home: • Install good locks on doors and windows. Use them! Don't hide keys in mailboxes and planters or under doormats. Instead, leave an extra set of keys with a neighbor or friend. • Ask for photo ID from service or delivery people before letting them in. If you are the least bit worried, call the company to verify. • Be sure your street address number is large, clear of obstruction, and well-lit so police and other emergency personnel can find your home quickly. Watch out for con artists and scams: • Don't fall for anything that sounds too good to be true — a free vacation, sweepstakes prizes, cures for cancer and arthritis, a low-risk, high-yield investment scheme. • Never give your credit card, Social Security, or bank account numbers to anyone over the phone. It's illegal for telemarketers to ask for these numbers to verify a prize or gi. • Be aware of individuals claiming to represent companies, consumer organizations, or government agencies that offer to recover lost money from fraudulent telemarketers for a fee. • If you're suspicious, check it out with the police, the Better Business Bureau, or call the National Consumers League Fraud Information Center at (800) 876-7060. Our next program is May 7 from 1 to 3 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. San Gorgonio Hospital will be presenting information on the Stroke Center.
