| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2024 | 51 Happy Cookers April showers bring kitchen powers! Let's sprinkle some culinary magic and cook up a storm this month! As the Happy Cookers gather for their monthly culinary escapade, anticipation fills the air like the aroma of freshly chopped herbs, beckoning them to the South Clubhouse on April 26 at 11 am. Andrea Arriola, renowned for her skillful hands and creative flair, takes center stage, ready to unveil the secrets of vegetable carving. With a gleam in her eye and a sharp knife in hand, she will begin her demonstration starting with a humble pineapple. But Andrea's talent extends far beyond pineapple carving. Throughout the demonstration, she will share tips and techniques for creating eye-catching designs from a variety of fruits and vegetables. With her guidance, the Happy Cookers will discover a whole new world of culinary possibilities, where ordinary ingredients become extraordinary works of edible art. It's Easter time and at the heart of Easter meals is the iconic Easter ham. Glazed with sweet honey and studded with cloves, this succulent roast takes center stage. Of course, no Easter meal would be complete without a selection of decadent desserts to satisfy every sweet tooth, from classic carrot cake with rich cream cheese frosting to adorable Easter-themed cookies decorated with pastel-colored icing. Ever wondered about the Easter Bunny's role in all this? Well, the tradition of the Easter Bunny traces back to ancient pagan customs celebrating springtime fertility and rebirth. With the changing seasons, ancient peoples marked the earth's rejuvenation with festivals and rituals. Among these, a notable tradition featured the hare, symbolizing fertility and new beginnings, believed to deliver eggs as gifts to children during springtime festivities. Over time, as Christianity spread and intertwined with pagan customs, the symbolism and commercial aspect of the hare evolved into the Easter Bunny we recognize today. The Easter Bunny brings joy to children with its whimsical visits and baskets brimming with colorful eggs, chocolates, and treats. Alongside these delights comes the tradition of decorating Easter eggs. Whether dyed in vibrant hues, adorned with intricate designs, or transformed into whimsical artworks, these eggs serve as both festive decorations and edible treats, adding a touch of magic to Easter celebrations. Children and adults alike revel in the creative process, turning ordinary shells into miniature masterpieces Like the Easter Bunny's boundless joy, our culinary creations aim to spread happiness, infusing Easter with a special magic that brings delight to The Happy Cookers who share in our fun-filled gatherings. So, if you love to cook, or just love to eat, this is the club for you! Happy cooking. For general info, contact President Pat Coie at (909) 262-5005.
