FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2024 9
DID YOU KNOW?
DID YOU KNOW how much we appreciate volunteers? President Richard Nixon designated the third week in April as National
Volunteer Week (NVW) in 1974 to recognize the contributions of volunteers. It's Australia's largest annual celebration. Our HOA has a
luncheon for the Board and committee members to show appreciation of their volunteer work throughout the year. Learn how this year's
NVW theme, Every Moment Matters, motivates residents (like those on pages 18 and 19 in this issue of the Breeze) to give their time and
energy outside our community.
DID YOU KNOW that with dwellingLIVE you can conveniently add guests to your guest list without having
to make a call to the gate or facilities? If you haven't used dwellingLIVE, scan the QR code at left for a tutorial.
DO YOU REMEMBER your constant companion when you made your
way around Southern California? Mr. Thomas Guide? He wasn't easy to use —
there was flipping to the back, looking for a street, finding the page, then locating
the grid; but Thomas, as you called him because he was your steadfast friend, was
reliable. At the end of the year, Thomas was stained with a mixture of gasoline, lip
gloss, and ranch dressing and was scraggly around the edges. So you'd upgrade to
a new Mr. Guide and throw the old Thomas away. No tears were shed. No feelings
were hurt. The relationship just progressed year after year. You knew the new
Thomas would be better than the old one. But then one year, without any warning,
Thomas was murdered by Ms. MapQuest who was subsequently snuffed out by Sir
GPS. Now our phones condescendingly talk to us, telling us how to get out of our
own cul-de-sacs like we're idiots. It makes me miss Mr. Guide. He knew I could
navigate my way to the end of the street without his help.
