Our recent travel to the Philippines in February 2024 took us to Boracay Island, a
tropical paradise that attracts millions of visitors every year with its powdery white
sand, crystal clear water and vibrant nightlife. But a visit to the beach is not complete
if you miss seeing the Blessed Virgin Mary's grotto on top of the Boracay Rock ( formerly
known as Willy's Rock). Controversy occurred in 2010 when the famous landmark
which is the property of the local Govt. and rented by the owner of Willy's Rock resort
abolished the grotto aer converting to a new religion. Protest ensued from the locals,
visitors and the Catholic church that in the end, the grotto and image was restored.
