40 | LIFE IN SOLERA | APRIL 2024 | QUILTERS Most of us contribute in some way to various charities. Those contributions may come in the form of money, household item donations, talents and skills, and our time. The picture here is of a "fidget quilt." If you aren't familiar with this item, it is a small quilt with objects sewn onto it. The purpose is to provide those with memory challenges like Dementia and Alzheimer's something to focus on and afford some familiar items on which to focus. These are in great demand with facilities who care for these patients. One of the Solera Quilters has taken up the cause of supplying these little quilts to those facilities. Pat Martino has thus far made 110 of them! Through her work with the Pass Patchers Quilt Guild and Santa Claus Inc., Pat has made not only these, but many other things that are welcomed by these organizations. These include 67 adult bibs, 14 dog pillows, eight walker caddies, 444 mom bags, 98 bib sets, 141 pillow cases, 73 travel bags and 15 cloth dolls. Her sewing machine must be working constantly! The Solera Quilters applaud Pat Martino for her extraordinary work. There are many in our group that do this same thing for various local organizations. We love creating beautiful and useful things and at the same time serving the needs of the community. KNIT & CROCHET CLUB The crochet squares (shown below, left) are being made into a sweater of member Becky's own design and turned out great. The purse show below, right, was made by talented member Olive. So many different crafty ideas and we all love to chat and share. Come check our group out on Thursdays 10 to 12. Crafting keeps your fingers nimble and busy…
