If you're looking for a new activity, try Pickleball. As you may know, Pickleball is America's fastest growing sport. There are many reasons for that, but most importantly, it's fun, easy to learn and you will meet many friendly people. Stop by and watch a few games. If it looks fun there are a couple of extra paddles that you may borrow. Most importantly, wear court shoes not running shoes. We play Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 7:30 to 11 am. If you're interested in meeting new people and having fun, come join us. Let me introduce you to two fun Solera Pickleball Paddlers… Sandy Stearn (above) came from York, Pennsylvania, where she was an office manager for a hearing aid company. She plays pickleball three times a week and has been playing for six to seven years. She became interested in pickleball when she read an article in a community newspaper that Beaumont community center was starting pickleball. So she went there to try it out. After we started pickleball here at Solera, she began playing mainly just here. She told me that learning to keep score was harder than learning the rules for the kitchen. She says it's easy to understand the kitchen. She explains that the kitchen can only be stepped into when a ball bounces in there first, then you can step in and hit the ball. But you must get out quickly. If you hit the ball while remaining in the kitchen, it is a mistake and the other team gets a point or the serve. She would advise anybody wanting to play pickleball to watch it on YouTube first to see if you are interested. She would emphasize that people should not give up, because the longer you play, the better you get. Gaby DeWitt (left) was an office manager for patient accounts at a local hospital. She started playing pickleball in June 2023 and plays as often as weather permits. It was hard for her to learn scoring, and she still forgets who has what score and if the server is number one or two. She would tell people if they like outdoor activities to try pickle ball. It is an easy sport that provides exercise and lots of fun with great people. Call either Sandy Stearn at (717) 542-0481 or George Dietz at (614) 940-9506.
