ProduceGood will be back again to glean at OHCC! It is a win/win/
win situation with gleaning. Insured volunteers will bring ladders to
your home and pick your unwanted fruit off your trees. Your "win"
is that the fruit will not fall off your tree, attract rats, and result in
disease and pestilence in your yard. Gleaned fruit is then shared
with those people who are "food insecure." The third win is that
the gleaning volunteers get their exercise and the joy of connecting
excess produce to those in need. They are also permitted to leave
some of your fruit for you to eat if you wish.
Last spring, over 200 pounds of gleaned, healthy fruit was picked
from OHCC yards and given to San Diego County organizations that
provide this food to the poor. You can drop by the front desk at the
Clubhouse or call (760) 758-8772 to sign up for this event. The next
gleaning event is being planned for Sun., April 7 from 9 to 11:30 am.
