| OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2024 |25 Do you need a temporary loan of medical equipment? Helping Hands maintains an inventory of wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes and shower chairs for people living in Ocean Hills Country Club. When having knee, hip, or shoulder surgery, we loan out water cooling devices that reduce the swelling and discomfort. Call one of the volunteers listed at the end of this article and we will deliver to your door at no cost to you. You can help a neighbor in OHCC by donating a clean, serviceable item that you are no longer using to Helping Hands. Check your storage areas for the items listed in this article. Please do not leave items outside of the storage area. Call the volunteers listed for more information. Thank you! For information, call Tom Mazur at (760) 295-1006, Tim Wilbur at (760) 639-5221, Dolores Hofmann at (707) 339-0508, Dennis Drake at (760) 859-7046 or Stan Katz at (760) 505-8298. Helping Hands Group TGIA! That stands for Thank Goodness It's April, a sentiment that all of OHCC's butterf ly lovers will support. For the second year in a row, a stubbornly cold and wet March has delayed the return of our beloved Monarchs and slowed the emergence of the milkweed that they need to restart their life cycle. But turning the calendar should bring the succession of warm, sunny days we need to get this new season off to a successful beginning. The Butterf ly Garden is already looking great, thanks to the efforts of our great team of volunteers, who have been raking, planting new milkweed and nectar plants, and generally sprucing the place up after the winter rains. As we write this, the first poppies are in bloom, heralding what should be a spectacular spring, as our garden continues to mature in its third season. Some brave Yellow Sulphur's have been exploring the acacia, and we've even seen a trickle of Monarchs daring to emerge from their cold-weather hiding places. They represent the promise of what we hope will be a banner year for butterf lies in our community. Butterf lies are not the only ones who get more active in the spring – it's a great time for humans too! The SMB Club has already got things moving with their recent seminars for home gardeners. We pick up the pace even more during the 40th anniversary celebration in May, when we hold a joint session with the Garden Club: Blooms and Butterf lies. It's on Fri., May 10 from 10 am to 12 pm, and it's a "can't miss" event for all who love… well, blooms and butterf lies! And who doesn't? Watch for more information over the next couple of weeks. Curiosity about those who came before and formed us is important. The group provides tools to do your research and help in getting started. For the experienced we can offer suggestions to break through the brick walls of past generations. Meeting with others looking in the same geographical areas is a great help. We have both Apple computers and PCs in the computer room. It is helpful if you want to bring your own laptop. We will meet for Help Sessions on Fri., April 5 and Fri., April 26 at 10 am. Newcomers are welcome. All sessions can be seen on the TAG calendar. We are happy to offer the World Explorer version of Ancestry.com free of charge in the computer room. This program would cost an individual over $100 a month. We also offer the Family Tree Maker on several of the computers in the lab. A family tree can be started and compiled with either or both of these programs with many hints to assist in your research. Coordinators are Dorothy Miller, Shirley Rock and Peggy Singh.
