28 | OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2024 | Music Lovers Happy April to our wonderful members and followers. Spring is upon us and isn't it grand? The opportunities for enjoying music are doubled when you can participate outdoors either in the sunshine or under a moonlit sky. Though still sweater weather, I love being able to enjoy the outdoors as spring brings us closer to summer. We hope you've been enjoying our Monday morning music and Villagers concerts. We've got a lot planned for the rest of 2024, so here's some news: I'm excited to announce that we've been invited to add live music to a few select Boomers First Friday events so stay tuned. This month, we're hosting our first Karaoke Night of 2024! Save the date, April 26, and bring your friends, partners and a song to sing between 6 and 9 pm. Snacks and desserts will be provided. Karaoke will be back again in December. Coffee House Mondays bring an assortment of musical performers and genres to our morning music-loving crowd in the lobby. There's music every Monday throughout the year from 9:30 to 11:30 am. April's line up is: April 1 – Greg Martin; April 8 – Mike and Debbie; April 15 – Lawrence Aiken; April 22 – Jazz Lite; April 29 – Brad Davidson. The Villagers have an abbreviated official schedule this year (but will be performing in some capacity at Boomers and our General meetings on occasion). Here's the extended line up: June 21, 3 to 5 pm on the Palm Court; Sept. 27, 3 to 5 pm on the Palm Court; Oct. 25, 6 to 8 pm on the Lanai; Nov. 22, 6 to 8 pm, Abravanel Hall. As we settle into April, our club is proud to continue providing these free music opportunities for all, and we hope to see you at our upcoming events. On the drawing board for 2024: Sending our members a monthly report of music events occurring here in North County and throughout the county and neighboring music meccas. Also, if you music lovers out there know of or hear about some upcoming marvelous music making, either free or ticketed, please send me an email and I'll post it in our monthly Music Happenings Report. Outings to two live music events, educational opportunities at our general meetings (i.e. learning the basics for how to read music). When the Lanai is completed and more prime real estate (Abravanel, Mykonos, Palm Court and Lanai) is available, we're hopeful to bring you other music opportunities later this year! (Big Band, string quartet). To our members with birthdays, this month we hope you have a wonderful celebration! Happy Birthday to Marla Reiter, Guy Justice, Donnalee Singer, Lawrence Aiken, Joan Beauvais, Jack Shabel, Lynn Wheeler, Joe Yeates, and all April babies who have yet to submit their forms.
