| OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2024 | 35 The RV Club is welcoming in spring with many great travel plans in the works for the rest of this year and into 2025. Welcome aboard all new RV'rs and WOW's, buckle up because it's going to be a great ride. March Madness was celebrated by the RV club with a local trip to the Anza Borrego Desert and staying at the Springs of Borrego Resort. If you haven't had a chance to stay and play there, I think you would really like it. The large nine-hole golf course is wonderful, and you likely will be accompanied by some friendly coyotes. Trust me though, they make lousy caddies. As a result of all the recent rains, the desert wildf lowers were found to be amazing with gorgeous weather. Catered events, stargazing and socializing with fellow members made for a memorable experience. Roger Marr, our Club president, and his wife Jo abandoned us this month to take a 35-day Fantasy RV tour of Florida, making several stops along the way, but one of the most memorable being New Orleans. Roger laments, "I can only relate that RVing is amazing and such a blessing to be able to explore our nations natural and manmade wonders." He and Jo were last seen in Auburndale, Florida at Margaritaville RV Resort. Not sure how much of a delay that may have caused. April includes a Day Trip to historic Old Town San Diego to enjoy the living legacy of California's birthplace and its many preserved historic buildings and museums which commemorate the early days of the town of San Diego from the period 1820 to 1870. Make a note that the next RV Club membership meeting will be on April 23; and if you're not there, we might talk about you. Written by: Marshall Kelsay RV Club Village Vets Hello fellow Vets. I must be honest with you. I am feeling a bit sad as I write this month's OHCC Living article. I was just notified of the passing of World War II veteran, Sid Zimman. Sid, like so many of his generation, gave up everything when the chips were down to serve this great nation. I sent his obituary to Lieutenant Colonel Eddie Utuk, who was our featured 2023 Veteran's Day speaker. Eddie's response says it best: "May his soul rest in glory. What a blessing it was for you (for all of us) to honor him one last time." Losing any fellow vet is a gut punch. We are brothers and sisters who answered our nation's call to service and, for some, the ultimate sacrifice. I am sure it did not feel that way when we initially joined, as Drill Instructors turned us from "lazy (expletive deleted) civilians" into lean, mean, fighting machines. I know when I talk with veterans, their most favorite or vivid memories come from their time spent in the service. Military service is a noble calling. We have lost other vets this year and a tough part about living in a 55+ community is that we will lose more. It is more important than ever to reach out to your veteran brethren and their families to see how they are doing. It's called a "buddy check." Do one today! Another way to do a buddy check is to participate in our general meetings and other events that your club sponsors. Our next general meeting will be on May 23. Pencil it in for noon right now, as we hope to be one of the first groups to christen the new Lanai. It will be our annual Hot Dog Extravaganza catered by none other than Greg and Patty Coffey! Our featured guests will be leaders from the Foundation for Women Warriors (https://foundationforwomenwarriors. org). You do not want to miss this event.
