30 | THE COLONY NEWS | APRIL 2024 | Happy spring, pickleball lovers! I want to share some updates with you about our local competition and the growth of pickleball in our neighboring city. In February, a group of nine incredible Colony players made the long journey to Four Seasons in Murrieta for a morning of friendly competition. Cliff Robinson had an amazing day, winning every game. Kudos, Cliff ! If you haven't heard, Temecula is now home to an indoor pickleball facility located on Winchester Road. SoCal Pickleball is open seven days a week, with four courts for those rainy days when you may not want to be on the courts here with the crazy Colonites who brave the elements and play outside in the puddles. (Red rubber boots are not required.) Our courts are available for open play for all residents, and we welcome you to join in the fun. We would love to see you on the courts! e March Pickleball scramble unfortunately was rained out. Our 24 eager participants will no doubt sign up for next month's shindig. I want to take a moment and give a big shout-out to our HOA vice-president, Gregg Ross, for spearheading an alternative remedy to shutting down court #1 for three-plus weeks in order to repair a few rough spots. It was planned that at the same time all three courts would be stripped, patched and re-painted at a cost of $28,000. Instead of all that time and money, Gregg was able to get the Board's approval to simply patch the three areas on court #1 with the help of our very own resident and ace pickler, Randy McKee. Randy is a well-known and respected handyman in the community who volunteered to fill the affected areas free of charge. ank you, Randy! Next, Ken Knapp and his crew put the finishing touches on the court by applying the appropriate top layer paint. ey did a beautiful job. ank you, Ken, and your guys. All of this took two days to complete rather than the three-plus weeks. It's so nice to live in a community where everyone chips in to do what's best for all concerned. ank you again to all involved. We will hopefully see you on the courts and as always, there are no reservations necessary to play. Just come on down, grab a paddle and join in the fun.
