SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | APRIL 2024 15 By Annette Hillis, Resident Brad Hyman has been a force for change for much of his adult life. While he spent most of his career working in the window and door industry, he had an epiphany about how he was to spend the years that ensued. Around 2008, Hyman decided he wanted to make a more impactful change in the lives of others. He obtained a job at Angel View Resale Store in Temecula. As an assistant manager, he was able to work toward helping people with disabilities. The operation was also a good way to make contacts in the community. "My work with adults with disabilities has given me a clear understanding of the value of inclusiveness and in seeing the unique abilities that every person possesses." But his work there was only the beginning of Hyman's quest for helping members of his community. Not only did he work at Angel View, but he volunteered for Habitat for Humanity. He eventually went on to work for Towards Maximum Independence as a job coach. While Hyman dealt specifically with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, the organization also provides services to children, the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and Veterans with Disabilities. "Providing services to these people helped me realize that personal fulfillment, for me, comes from getting out of my own head and connecting to others." Hyman's father was, and still is, the most influential and inspirational person in his life. "As a career educator, he instilled in me the values of education, communication, and connecting to others, as well as the importance of family." Hyman lives here in the Solera Diamond Valley Community with his wife, Ellen, who, quite aptly, heads the Volunteer Committee. As well as volunteering, they both enjoy traveling to cities they have never been to before and immersing themselves deeply into the local culture. Some of their destinations include cruises to Alaska, Vancouver, and the Pacific Coast, and they have been on cruises from Los Angeles to Hawaii – three times. Cruises to the British Isles and Mexico have also taken place. Hyman admits he is a huge Angels fan and attributes this to growing up in Anaheim and attending his first game when he was seven. Aside from that, Hyman shares he enjoys spending time with their dog and fitness walking. He says that most of his free time these days is spent checking in on his elderly parents and managing their affairs after having moved them into an assisted living situation recently. Hyman also heads up the Facebook page Hemet Positively, which proudly posts good things that are happening in our area. "I try to focus on the positive in all aspects of my life and not waste time on the negative. I hope to be remembered as someone who tried to do the right thing with every decision."
