Pickleball Paddlers play every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday
from 7:30 to 11 am. Please come join us even if you have never
played before. There are many very helpful people who will be more
than glad to help you learn the game. Let me introduce you to one
of those helpful people that made learning pickleball easy for me.
Hi, I'm Dave James. My wife, Mary Jane and I moved here in
2016 from Lakewood, where
we raised our family. I worked
in aerospace for TRW and
retired in 2014. I was the
business manager for one of
the manufacturing areas.
We were first introduced to
pickleball in 1979, back when
I had a full head of hair and
wore 33 inch pants. Friends
had a pickleball court in their
backyard in Crestline. We
only played a few times back
then, as couples relocated
further apart. We didn't play
again until we started playing
here in Solera. A few folks
lobbied the HOA to share
time on the tennis courts. My wife and I were in the initial group of
folks playing when this first started up. We would have to use blue
painters tape to outline the court. I think Sue Miller, Ron Selberg,
and I are the only three left from the early days. I didn't find any of
the basic five rules challenging but many others struggle with how
to keep score. Pickleball is attractive to seniors for several reasons.
It's played on a court less than half the size of a tennis court, so
much less running, five simple
rules and excellent cardio
workout. My favorite shot is
to spin the ball and have it just
fall on the other side of the net
making it virtually impossible
to return. Once you try
pickleball, you'll be hooked.
It's quite addictive. Please
remember that NO BALL IS
WORTH THE FALL.
