26 | THE COLONY NEWS | MAY 2024 | In May we will be discussing Loving Frank by Nancy Horan. The book is a historical fiction novel exploring world-famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright's relationship with Mamah Bouton Borthwick. Their affair drew public attention in the early 20th century. The book explores their fame and its effect on public figures, the role of art in self- expression and society's treatment of women. It exposes the chaotic personal life of the famous architect. The Book Readers meet in the Meeting Room at the Clubhouse on the second Wednesday of each month at 10:30 am. May's date is the 8th. The book for June is e Book Woman's Daughter by Kim Michele Richardson. If you enjoy reading, we invite you to join us. Watercolor Classes By Sylvia Maxwell, 818-667-1766 Our artist for May is Mo Chan. She and her husband have lived in The Colony for over 20 years. After retirement, she started painting as a hobby. Most of her paintings are in oils and watercolor. Mo is a past member of Gem of The Valley Art Association, where she learned many painting techniques from other artists. She has also studied painting from art books and demonstrations from fellow artists. Like many of us, she is a self-taught artist. She first showed her artwork in our Clubhouse Lobby in 2010, and last exhibited her paintings in 2020. Welcome back, Mo, and thank you for sharing your artwork. We look forward to seeing what new paintings you have for our enjoyment. Artist of the Month By Sylvia Maxwell, 818-667-1766
