We are living in interesting times with lots and lots of information flowing on almost every conceivable subject. Here is an example: Is there any day in the year that is not a "National Something Day?" The short answer is NO; everyday of the year does include something to commemorate. There is actually a National Nothing Day. It appears that anyone can declare a day of something; you just have to get people to pay attention. Celebrating a day or a special event can be important for our lives in many ways: 1. To have a good memory. 2. To be present - making us alert and attentive to everything that surrounds us. 3. To see how far we've come - celebration as an event, not a destination. 4. To appreciate what we have - recognizing and cherishing the little things such as a sunny day or having friends. 5. To be grateful - focusing on what you have instead of what you do not have. "The most beautiful things are not associated with money; they are memories and moments. If you don't celebrate, they can pass you by." Alek Wek Two days of note in May are Mother's Day and Memorial Day. Memorial Day is always commemorated on the last Monday in May. This year, it is on May 27. It honors those who have died in military service, while Veterans Day in November honors all veterans living and dead. We should never disregard its importance. Many veterans live in Four Seasons, and we thank them for putting their lives on hold to serve our country. Our 2024 Annual Election has concluded. We thank our candidates for volunteering their time to serve our community. One responsibility of your Board members that doesn't get much attention, but requires a major time commitment, is that of a Liaison to several committees. The primary role of a Board Liaison is to facilitate communication between the Board and the committee, but not to direct the day-to-day work of the committee or dictate its working agenda. Serving on your Board requires certain skills. One of these is patience. The definition of patience is to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset, being calm in the face of adversity or frustration. It applies to all of us living here. It can help us to stay focused and make better decisions. It isn't about tolerating bad situations; it's about being resilient and maintaining a positive attitude while waiting for things to happen. It can help us manage stress and anxiety. Patience can help us to maintain healthy relationships. When we are patient, we are able to listen attentively and understand the perspective of others. This leads to better communication and stronger relationships. Once in awhile, when entering the front gate and it doesn't open quickly, a resident may want to yell at one of our Securitas employees. Remember that they are here to help and protect us — be patient. Every now and then, a resident may get upset and want to vent their frustration at one of our FirstResidential employees at the front desk. Remember that they are here to help us — be patient. "To lose patience, is to lose the battle." Mahatma Gandhi "When it comes to patience, we don't have to change old habits; we can build better ones." Sue Bender Message from the Board of Directors 2 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MAY 2024 | Sincerely, and on behalf of your Board of Directors, Barbra Balser, Cliff Post, Tony Criscenti, Roxy Snider, Fred Kydd, and Mary Reyna Jim Crase President As we enter the month of May, I'd like to take a moment to wish all the mothers in District 5 a very happy Mother's Day! I'd also like to discuss one of the many programs the County of Riverside offers for our seniors, the "Tablet Program." Offered by our county's Office of Aging, this program teaches seniors the basics of navigating a tablet, web browser, e-mail, and Zoom. It also teaches seniors how to download apps, take pictures, and record videos. Participants must be 60 or older, disabled or caring for a disabled person, have limited use and/or knowledge of technology, and be willing to participate in weekly screenings. Once again, happy Mother's Day, and let's "Thrive in District 5!" Supervisor's Message By Supervisor Yxstian Gutierrez
