FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MAY 2024 61 The Four Seasons Cornhole Group, the Beaumont Baggers, started the season this past month and we are enjoying some great games, fun, and conversation. Join us every Tuesday night at 4 pm at The Summit grass area. Every week, we pick a teammate for you and all are welcome. Come by to enjoy the group as a couple or as a single. Enjoy a new sport this spring as a player or spectator. Please remember to fob in through The Summit and check in outside to get your name in the hat if you want to play. No cost to you and no experience needed. If you have any questions, please call Pat Barry at (951) 388-0441. ~ Pat Barry Beaumont Bagger Cornhole Group We had February floods, March monsoons, and some April showers, but spring is here, and the weather portends more opportunities to enjoy the outdoors on and at The Courts, beginning with April's Poker-is-a-Racquet Tournament. With five rounds of doubles with different partners giving the players the opportunity to draw two playing cards for each win and one card for a loss, the overall winners were those with five cards that produced the highest poker hand, lowest hand, and a few others. The best players ended up with the most cards, but the winners were those players with the best luck. For those of us who were not playing with a full deck and didn't win anything, at least there were snacks. During the winter months, many Four Seasons Beaumont Tennis Club (FSBTC) members participated in three different United States Tennis Association (USTA) leagues on teams captained by Club members Lou Stokes, Larry Martin, and Chuck Beckman. The three teams had a combined record of 14 match wins and 10 losses, with the Mixed Doubles team placing second in its league. While no team moved on to sectional play, they all enjoyed visiting clubs in the Coachella Valley, from Palm Springs to Indio, and having them come to Beaumont to play on our beautiful courts. Stan Lam has earned our thanks for his four years of writing Tennis Club articles for the Breeze. For much of that time there were no activities to report because of the pandemic, so he did research on a variety of tennis issues (e.g. how the pros choose which balls to use when serving in a tournament match) and provided informative and useful articles. Well, that's over. As he wrote last month, I have been recycled and have returned to the Executive Committee and assigned to take over his role. His punishment is that he now serves as the President of the Tennis Club. Play days will continue to be scheduled for the last Saturday of each month, and tennis drills and coaching will occur on the other Saturdays. Everyone is welcome.
