We meet each month on the first Monday from 1 to 3 pm in the Main Clubhouse Bus Room and the third Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Recently, a member of the Writers Club put out some information about pacing as it applies to certain types of writing. One particular area where pacing is very important is short stories. Indeed, Edgar Allan Poe once wrote that a short story needs to be read in one sitting. This leads to reflection on the comparative need for pacing in other forms of writing. For instance, in the professional world, conveying your message clearly and concisely is important in areas such as writing a resume (which some say must pass the 30 second rule or get pitched), writing a concise mission statement (typically one or two sentences that generate intense debate), and proposals, with page limit counts and where each word is a polished jewel. In fact, this applies to literature across the board. Even a long novel profits from economy to maintain interest and encourage the reader to be part of the creative process. Essays, too, typically involve a thesis. As Albert Einstein famously said, "If you cannot explain it simply, you do not understand it well." Our Creative Writers Club has several experienced writers in many forms of literature. Come join us at Creative Writing Club meetings to share your ideas in a friendly setting, and listen to the writings and opinions of others. You will find this very stimulating. 36 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2024 | Creative Writers Computer Club Meetings are on the THIRD Thursday of each month at 1 pm in the Multipurpose Room.
