He was probably most famous for the theme to the movie Midnight Cowboy. e song was "Everybody's Talkin'." I was surprised to find that he also wrote the song One for ree Dog Night. One is a one-word-title song which prompted me to wonder how many other songs there could be in this one word title category? ere were so many songs that fit this description that I had to force myself to limit the amount listed in this article. ese are just some of them: Sincerely, e Moonglows/e McGuire Sister Tequila, e Champs Runaway, Del Shannon Tammy, Debbie Reynolds Delilah, Tom Jones Vincent, Don McClean Sunny, Bobby Hebb Sukiyaki, Kyu Sakamoto Yesterday, e Beatles Galveston, Glenn Campbell Sherry, e Four Seasons Magic, Olivia Newton-John Respect, Aretha Franklin Snowbird, Ann Murray Grease, Frankie Valli Imagine, John Lennon Fire, e Pointer Sisters If, Bread If, Perry Como Sing, e Carpenters Elvira, e Oakridge Boys Ringo, Lorne Green Gloria, Laura Brannigan Gloria, em Waterloo, Abba riller, Michael Jackson Easy, e Commodores Dreamin', Johnny Burnett Shame, Evelyn Champagne King Believe, Cher Another subject that came to mind as I wrote this article was that May is the month we celebrate Mother's Day, which falls on Sun., May 12 this year. A few one-word songs for mom came to mind: Mammy by Al Jolson as well as the 1960s version of this song by e Happenings. Let's not forget two more Mother's Day tribute songs: Mama by Connie Francis from 1960 and with B.J. omas' Mama from 1966, (not the same song). One last holiday in May is Cinco De Mayo on Sun., May 5. A one word song worthy of Cinco De Mayo is Malo's hit recording of Suavecito from February 1972. Oh! and speaking of holidays … e Bee Gees had a one word hit song in 1967 called Holiday. Join us in the South Clubhouse on Fri. May 24 for Goodtimes Karaoke.
