4 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MAY 2024 | By Beverly Simmons, Master Board 2nd Vice-President DID DID YOU YOU KNOW??? KNOW??? Did you know there is a new fence at Gate One? It is along the road on the entrance side inside the community and has been installed at the recommendation of the HOA insurance company. It is intended to encourage pedestrians to NOT walk through the car gate but instead to use the pedestrian gate to enter and exit. Many of us walk through that gate to shop at Albertsons, Hobby Lobby, or Marshalls and many bring pull-carts. Unfortunately, these carts often get stuck crossing the gate rails in the street. This presents a hazard to the car traffic and the pedestrian. You're in a blind spot to cars coming in that gate and are at risk of being hit. Please be aware! Bring your gate key and use the pedestrian gate when leaving or entering Sun Lakes Main Gate. If you don't have a gate key, contact Administration. FYI … this gate key also gives you access to the restrooms on the golf course. Did you know that during the Lounge expansion, the Sandwedge is open every day except Monday, offering the same hours as the Restaurant and Lounge? Plus more! • You can have breakfast at 7 am on Saturday and Sunday in the Sandwedge • Party until 11 pm on Friday and Saturday nights in the Sandwedge • Tuesday through Friday the Sandwedge opens at 11 am and stays open until 8 pm (except Friday, which is 11 pm) • Enjoy Happy Hour every Wednesday in the Sandwedge starting at 3:30 pm • Happy Hour is also available on the Veranda every Wednesday, starting this month Did you know that you can eat lunch and/or dinner in the Restaurant EVERY DAY (except Monday when it is closed) during the renovation? Really! Enter through the Sandwedge into the back portion of the Restaurant and enjoy a quieter, more relaxing dining experience. If you aren't in the mood for the hustle and bustle of the Sandwedge you may choose to eat in the Restaurant. No TVs, lower lighting, easier conversation. Also unaffected by the Lounge expansion is weekend music in the Ballroom, as well as music on the veranda starting in May. Sun Lakes is moving into its prime time, so come on out and play! We were disappointed to have to cancel Weekend at Augusta but are looking forward to playing The Monster Scramble on Thurs., June 6 and giving away the Golf Cart during one of our Summer Celebration Charity Weekend events coming up June 7 to June 9. This coming Charity weekend will have more of the traditional events you've all come to know and love. Kicking off the weekend, the morning of Fri., June 7 will be "Nancy's Sunshine Diner," our Pancake Breakfast in the Ballroom. Following that, we look forward to the Helicopter Ball Drop and Charity Raffle Drawing out on the Driving Range. That evening, will be the "Hoedown Happy Hour," an evening of dinner and music in the Ballroom. On Sat., June 8, you can follow the players on the back nine of the Championship Course during the Pro-Am Shoot-Out. Then enjoy an afternoon of music by Walle Larrson on the Veranda followed by the reverse raffle for a new golf cart built for us by The Cart Guy! Wrapping up the weekend on Sun., June 9, is the Pro-Am Tournament followed by the Player's Lunch. There will be a Live Public Auction for golf packages donated by the participating pros. As happens each year, the tickets for the helicopter ball drop, helicopter ride, and raffle tickets will be delivered to every home in May. The drawing for the lucky helicopter ride winner will be June 5. Additional ticket sales will be May 10 through May 31 – Wednesdays and Fridays 3 to 6 pm and Saturdays 10 am to 1 pm. More information will be ongoing here as details are confirmed. You can also visit our Facebook page, Sun Lakes Country Club Charitable Trust, and dedicated website, www.SunLakesCharity.org, for event and ticket sales information. SUN LAKES CHARITY NEWS
