SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | JUNE 2024 11 By Clare Mendez, Resident Aer a sizable earthquake where windows have broken or large pieces of furniture have toppled over, the Community Emergency Response Trained individuals as well as the Emergency Preparedness Advisory Committee will set up a Command Center behind the Lodge. If you were in attendance at the April drill you saw how it will be set up and how it will be run. It will take a while to set things up as the first priority is to your own self and family. If all is well at home we ask residents to check with their neighbors and then come to the Command Center to check in. Do not enter any residence alone or where there is visible damage or the smell of gas or other chemicals. You should notify the personnel at the Planning Table of the Command Center what you saw or smelled. ere are some things the Command Center cannot help you with. You will need to have on hand your own medications. No meds will be given out by the volunteers. Also, have a carrier or crate for your pet, large enough to sustain it until you can return home. ere's a suggested list of items you should have on hand in a tub, such as a rolling suitcase, to take with you if you are displaced from your home and another that is light enough to carry on your back with your meds, a light jacket, GMRS radio, and toiletries. e list can be found in the Lobby across from the gym or online at FEMA.gov. e EPAC is grateful for the residents who showed up for our drill to learn how you can help and care for yourself and others. On July 16 at 9:30 EPAC will be offering CPR and AED training with Dr. Rendon for $25 each … more on that later. Meanwhile, all residents are encouraged to get to know your neighbors on each side and across the street. And, please be open to volunteering as a CERT, EPAC member, or Neighborhood Watch.
