| THE COLONY NEWS | JUNE 2024 | 17 The Elf is on hiatus until November when she collects toys but she has asked me for help in seeking The Colony's assistance in collecting gently used ball gowns, tuxedos, fancy formal accessories (purses, cummerbunds, dressy shoes, etc.) in preparation for the Marine Corps Birthday Balls held throughout Camp Pendleton in November. The gowns and tuxes are offered free at an open house at the Camp Pendleton YMCA for the Marine spouses who cannot afford to purchase a tux or ball gown for these events. Your generous response over the years has filled my car and provided thousands of dollars worth of gowns and tuxes to this program. I know we have many new residents who might have some items to donate in an effort to downsize. I will pick up at your home and deliver the items to Camp Pendleton where the "Y" has set up a showroom for display and distribution of your beautiful finery. Many have called throughout the year asking when I can resume the pickup of these items. It is nice to know you remember me and the program. I already have a tub of finery which missed the 2023 cut-off date and is ready for delivery. The Colony residents have been very generous to the Marines at Camp Pendleton, and it is my pleasure to help you provide for this program. The YMCA is an IRS recognized 501c3 nonprofit public charity. Please call me at 951-698-8640 for questions and to book your pick up date. Look for my articles over the next few months to remind you to call. The cut-off date for this year is Sunday, Sept. 1. Thank you in advance for your generosity. Ball Gowns and Formal Attire By Rita Nastri, 951-698-8640 Attention All Veterans By Gloria Brosky In preparation for the Veterans Ball in November, we are asking veterans to share photos of themselves for use in a slide show presentation. Photos in your uniform or current photos are great. In the HOA office you will find a decorated box in which to place your picture(s). Please label it (them) with your name, branch and phone number; a post-it or address label will work just fine. You may email the photo to Kara at kara.hardy@associa.us or place it in the box. After scanning it, we will return the photo to you.
