26 | THE COLONY NEWS | JUNE 2024 | Come join us on Wednesday, June 12, as we discuss Kim Michele Richardson's inspiring story of e Book Woman's Daughter. Strength, courage, dedication, spirit, resilience, fortitude – all qualities that young Honey Mary Angeline Lovett needs in her challenging quest to follow in her mother's footsteps as a packhorse librarian, bringing help and hope to the isolated poor in the beautiful but impoverished mountains of Kentucky. We meet on the second Wednesday of every month at 10:30 am in the Clubhouse Meeting Room. Come and give us a try, even if you haven't had a chance to read the book! If you like to read ahead, our July book selection is Lost Roses by Martha Hall Kelly. Book Readers By Maggie Olson, 574-252-1679 As we continue into spring, there is an abundance of butterflies, birds and blooms, which we incorporated into our May painting. Our class continues to meet on the last Thursday of each month in the Annex from 9 am to 12:30 pm. Everyone is welcome! We have beginners to the very experienced in our class. We do ask that you please bring your own art supplies. Please give me a call at the above number with any questions you may have. I look forward to seeing both familiar and new faces in our June 27 watercolor class. Happy painting! Watercolor Classes By Sylvia Maxwell, 818-667-1766 Our featured artist for June is fine art photographer, Nancy Roux. This is Nancy's third exhibit in our Lobby. Nancy moved from Providence, Rhode Island, to southern California in 1983. She has a B.A. in Studio Art and has had a lengthy career as a freelance designer/producer. In 2011, she began pursuing fine art photography full-time. Nancy has excelled in abstract nature, textiles, and natural materials, such as tree bark, leaves, woodgrain, florals, succulents, water and stone. She designs and integrates custom crafted backings of hardwood and copper to complement special additions, creating artwork with camera and computer. Since 2011, Nancy has had her work displayed in more than 25 exhibitions and art festivals in SoCal and Arizona, and during 2012- 2017 received seven Awards and Recognitions. Earlier this spring, the City of Temecula featured some of her work in the Rotunda Gallery of the Temecula Valley Museum, including three new abstracts inspired by Matt Tommy's "Created to Thrive" Mentorship Program. We graciously appreciate her time and participation as our Artist of the Month. Thank you so much, Nancy.
