| THE COLONY NEWS | JUNE 2024 | 33 Men's Golf By Greg Griffes The Men's Club is looking for Colony resident golfers of all abilities to join us. Membership benefits are weekly fun events mixed with individual events to improve your game and handicap. We have monthly luncheons, two major championships a year, a year-end Awards Banquet, and we sponsor the charity Pancake Breakfasts twice a year. At the end of April we held one of our three day major tournaments, the Club Championship. This is an individual tournament where everyone competes against each other using their USGA handicaps. Trophies will be awarded for the winners and displayed in the trophy case in the HOA clubhouse. There are membership forms, a schedule of games, and our game winners at our website http://colonymensgolf.net. If you are interested in joining the CMGC, please contact George Herrera at 760-533-0350 for more information. May Colony Couples 2Ball results… wow! What a challenge for this event to even get off the tee. Sometimes we've been challenged by Mother Nature, but not this month and when even with man-made obstacles, enthusiasm in this fun play event was not dampened. First, it seemed that many regulars had picked early May for "get away" vacation plans. Then due to the "aerating of the greens" (an annual event) on the front nine, which is generally and exclusively played, it was not playable. This forced us to play the back nine. The organizer was not prepared for this eventuality and after printing all the materials (score cards, closest the pin cards) and delivering them for play, only then was it learned about the change to the back nine. It was an unfortunate lack of communication but soon everything that needed to be reprinted before the sign in and tee time was ready. After some scrambling, all was done and the golf scramble could launch as scheduled. All in all, a very enjoyable and fun afternoon on the links prevailed and Mother Nature provided ideal golf conditions. A shout-out to all participants for the understanding and laughter for this event. MAY'S WINNERS: If you have interest in joining us, give me a call or drop me an email at dmurph44@ vrizon.net and I will send you a 2024 tournament schedule (first Thursday afternoon of the month), rules of the game and include you on our active mailing list. The next contest is Thursday, June 6. Requirements for this event are to be able to grasp a club! Being a member of the Men's or Women's Golf Club is not required. Just pick up some sticks and join us for a friendly afternoon of fun. Look forward to hearing from you. See ya on the links!
