Cinco de Mayo By Valorie Hillerich A little mother-daughter time was the ticket for Beth Bovard James and daughter Nancy. e crowd dances to DJ Nate. e Temecula Ballet Folklorico put on quite a show in celebration of Cinco de Mayo. Ron and Lynne Gowin toast to the festivities. Cheers to the evening! Viva la Colony! And holy guacamole! The Social Committee put on another fabulous fiesta to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Residents feasted on tasty street tacos, enjoyed mucho margaritas, danced to the brisk and lively tunes of DJ Nate, and were entertained by the creative choreography of the Temecula Ballet Folklorico. Sharon Carlson from the Social Committee told me the atmosphere was festive and the audience was full of enthusiasm. Thank you to Ron and Lynne Gowin, Beth Bovard James, and Irene Wolff, who sent me their fun photos! It looks like a great time was had by all! I joined the staff of e Colony News magazine about a year and a half ago. It wasn't long before I was asked to take "some" pictures for the magazine. Now I am the "OFFICIAL" photographer! And it warms my heart to hear people tell me how much they enjoy the pictures, seeing themselves on the pages, looking at all the dog photos, and just having fun with the MAGAZINE! According to resident Mary Pat Gates, "e Colony News magazine brings the community together, lets us know what's going on, and makes us proud to be a part of it." It got me thinking, "What is a MAGAZINE vs. a 'newsletter,' our previous title?" So, I googled it and found this: "A magazine is a written form of communication … generally published on a regular schedule, containing a variety of content …. A f lexible balance of text and graphics…[and] has many colorful pictures." Check, check, check, check, and check on all counts. What stood out to me most was MANY COLORFUL PICTURES. (Like People magazine, or Us Weekly.) So, with much fanfare, e Colony News is now e Colony News MAGAZINE!
