Now is the perfect time to grab your favorite book, pop on over to the nearest park, take root under a tree, and read while you soak up the sun. Book Culture June 5, 2018 What better way to celebrate the month of June than with the works of an author born in this very month? Let's say happy birthday to omas Hardy, born June 2, 1840 and author of Far from the Madding Crowd. In his words, "Time changes everything except something within us which is always surprised by change." It is that very change that all of us have experienced throughout our lives. An example of that change within our library at OHCC is the creation of the new Aernoon with Author's Series. Last month, many of you joined Dr. Dee Wardell and Dr. Stan Katz in the second presentation with this series. Both authors focused on the unsung hero, and each presenter shared the challenges they had faced in their own lives. e audience thoroughly enjoyed the event. Likewise, on Sun., June 9, Matt Coyle, award winning author of the best-selling Rick Cahill crime series, will be with us for the third installment of our Aernoon with Authors. e nine book novel series is set in La Jolla and surrounding San Diego County. e event will take place in Abravanel Hall at 1 pm. Library members are free and non- members are $5. Make sure you have signed up at the front desk as soon as possible. Book sales and signings will be available aer the presentation. On Sun., July 14, Laura Soldinger Yotter will be discussing her book, Death and Diamonds. It is the inspiring true story of her father, Samuel Soldinger, who survived seven Nazi concentration camps during the Holocaust. He was liberated at the end of WWII and eventually came to America and spent the remainder of his time teaching Native Americans the art of diamond cutting. Don't miss this opportunity to meet the author and discuss the story of her father's inspiring journey of faith, hope and luck.
