Welcome June and here comes summer! We made it through May's 40th Anniversary Celebration. ere are a great many people to thank for working on this year-long project. Our thanks to Ellen Baur, a "Chair Extraordinaire." Alongside her we had Jackie Crosby, Jean Hefler, Judy Harris, Judy Buoniconti, Patti Smith, Jana Falej, and Christy Cooper. ey all played significant roles in seeing that the project moved along, giving residents a chance to photo op to the finale "Sock Hop." is dedicated group's goal was to produce an upbeat atmosphere, similar in the grand tradition of previous anniversary celebrations. e Committee sought aer a number of volunteers to assist with photo sittings, Senior Expo hosts, driving golf carts, and book sales. e clubs really got behind the idea and hosted over 25 events that were enjoyed and so well-attended. From a fashion show, to snow cones, to ice cream, to burgers, the creativity flowed over in the Clubhouse. ank you all for your commitment and willingness to create a month-long celebration. We hope it was memorable for those who participated and the 40th Anniversary Book will be enjoyed for years to come! Summer months bring out more swimmers. We have started the registration of guests using the pool areas. To all residents, stop by the Front Desk and register all guests. We will provide a wristband to guests when swimming or bathing at the pool. A list of pool rules will be provided at this time. is month the Recreation Department will be organizing the Fourth of July parade. Sign ups are encouraged, as we recognize the holiday in the streets of OHCC. A map will be distributed for viewing the procession. We would like to have at least 30 plus golf carts and vehicles. Years ago, in celebration of the 20th anniversary year, a parade was planned. e Angler's Club hooked up a boat on the back of a pick-up with members tossing their fishing lines off the side. A group of eater Arts performers dressed up like "Wizard of Oz" characters, walking the entire asphalt route over two and a half miles. Another resident dressed up as a clown, rode his scooter, honking his nose along the parade route. at same year residents baked 9" x 13" cakes and brought them to the Clubhouse, placing them all together to make one large, giant anniversary cake. It was a sight to see and we had enough "cake" to feed the entire Village. e Tri-City Medical Center has postponed their June lecture but kept their dates for August, September, and October on our books. More information, regarding the topics, of their proposed lectures will be coming in the months ahead. e Pop-up vendors are coming Mondays and Tuesdays. Chez Christophe will be here on every other Monday aernoon, La Banana will be changing to Tuesdays, 11 am to 5 pm, and Ela's Crepes will continue to come every other Monday aernoon. As the weather gets warmer the vendors are hoping to see more customers, the rainy, cold weather put a damper on their business. Come out and support these three vendors so they will continue to provide their services. Take a walk on the loop and pick up a dinner in the Overflow. Happy Father's Day to all dads! A father is someone you look up to, no matter how tall you grow. Enjoy your day, relax, and count your blessings. Come to the pool for a swim, the water is 84 degrees, and the time spent together is worth the sunburn! 18 | OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2024 | Recreation News By Christy Bessey
