28 | OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2024 | Yiddish Club What were Rosie O'Donnell and Louie Armstrong doing at our Yiddish Club Seder on April 29? is was not your typical grandfather's Seder. Read on… Our sincere thanks and appreciation to Felicity Swerdlow and Dorothy Ganz, and their hard-working volunteers, for their time and effort in creating a beautiful and memorable "Symbolic" Seder. A Yiddish Club Seder had not been held, in recent memory, and we are hoping that it will become an annual tradition. e Seder, in addition to reviewing the history of Passover, also highlighted the current situation in the Middle East. We were delighted to listen to a video of Louie Armstrong singing Go Down Moses, and we all joined in the chorus. We were touched by a video of four young Israeli soldiers singing the traditional four questions asked at Passover. We were charmed by a clip from the Rosie O'Donnell TV show in which our own Selma Leighton taught Rosie how to make matzo brei! A young man in another video lead us in an enthusiastic rendition of Dayenu. e Seder concluded on a heartfelt note as we listened to a video entitled "Habayta" (come home) with one thousand Israeli musicians playing and families of the hostages singing, and calling the world to bring the hostages back home. As Felicity Swerdlow so elegantly wrote, "e very last words of the traditional Seder are "Next Year in Jerusalem." As the final moment in the Seder, it is emotionally significant, and it finishes the Seder's journey from a reminder of the suffering of the past (and present) to hopes for wholeness and freedom for all in the future, and the return of all the hostages." As a reminder: Please be sure to mark your calendars and check your emails announcing our semi-annual deli luncheon with entertainment, to be held on Sun., June 23 at 12 noon in Abravanel Hall.
