| OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2024 | 15 National Tap Dance Day is celebrated on May 25 every year in the U.S., Japan, Australia, India and Iceland. e idea of National Tap Dance Day was first presented to congress on February 7, 1989 and was signed into American law by President George H.W. Bush on Nov. 8, 1989. National Tap Dance Day was the idea of Carol Vaughn, Nicola Davao, and Linda Christensen who deemed May 25 as the celebration day because it is the birthday of Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, a significant contributor to tap dance Who knew we would have a special day for tapping? Vocalist Clay Colton returns, this time with the band Cadillac Fringe. A shout out to creative party host Karen Hamm and her committee. is party follows the meet and greet Open House on May 7, when the entire community was invited to celebrate the 40th Anniversary. Doo Wop also held a very successful dance in April, featuring the Buckleys, and a hippie-themed dance in May, with Smokin' Guns. e Board works to give members a variety of bands, while party hosts aim to provide a wide range of interesting themes. When the parties are scheduled for Abravanel Hall, we hire bands to play. Once the Lanai is finished and we can schedule dances there during warmer months, we may use DJs, depending on dance-floor size availability. Results of our recent survey show most respondents, 70 percent, want to bring their own food and beverages. at will keep costs down and support diet restrictions that catered dinners may not. You do not have to come with a partner or get out on the dance floor to enjoy the parties. Many come to sit, meet new friends, and enjoy the live music — always at a reasonable cost.
