Over 20 Solera residents will be joining Four Seasons AACC to
celebrate Freedom Day Juneteenth.
Juneteenth is celebrated to commemorate the emancipation of
enslaved African Americans in the United States. On June 19, 1865,
Union Army General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas,
and announced General Order No. 3, which proclaimed the freedom
of all enslaved people in Texas, effectively enforcing the Emancipation
Proclamation, which had been issued more than two years earlier by
President Abraham Lincoln.
Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day,
symbolizes the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates
the resilience, strength, and contributions of African Americans
to American society. It's a day of reflection, remembrance, and
celebration of freedom and equality. Over time, it has become
a significant cultural holiday, marked with festivities, parades,
educational events, and community gatherings, not only in Texas
but across the United States. Source: Wikipedia. ~ Willie Hill,
