Along the way there were also ladies who rocked just as hard as their male counterparts although without much fanfare. Sister Rosetta arpe played electric guitar, sang in a Delta blues style, and her best- known song is called Rock Me. Willie Mae ornton (aka Big Mama ornton) was the first to record the song Hound Dog in 1952. Elvis had his recording of this song on the charts in 1956. Big Maybelle was the first to record Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin On in 1955. Ruth Brown sold so many R&B records for Atlantic Records the owners of the company called their label e House at Ruth Built. La Vern Baker was the second woman inducted into e Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (aer Aretha Franklin) and is known for the song Jim Dandy. Wanda Jackson is known as e Queen of Rockabilly. Wanda rocked hard. She also dated Elvis and sang the Elvis song Let's Have A Party. Lillian Briggs called herself e Queen of Rock & Roll. Janis Martin, e Female Elvis Presley, is best remembered for the songs My Boy Elvis and Drugstore Rock & Roll. Brenda Lee's real name is Brenda Mae Trapley and is nicknamed "Little Miss Dynamite." Brenda rocked hard in her early days and is best known for her hit recording of Rockin' Around e Christmas Tree. ere have been many other ladies of Rock & Roll from Tina Turner to Taylor Swi. Blast for this month's Goodtimes Karaoke on Fri., June 21 in the Oakmont Clubhouse beginning at 5:30 pm with a potluck followed by karaoke at 6 pm.
